I have been seriously been considering 'investing' in a 9mm Springfield Range Officer 1911 . I do not shoot competition so am just looking for a nice target pistol . Would appreciate any response good or bad if you have had any hands on experiences with one of these . Thanks !

The SA Range Officer gets good reports on the Bullseye-L Forum, a forum dedicated to the sport of Bullseye shooting.

I believe that most on the Bullseye forum would be speaking about the RO in .45 ACP. Springfield should be able to go to 9MM without problems. I would love to have the same pistol you are wanting but I will probably end up with a CZ 75.

I'm on the bullseye forum, the Range officer has indeed gotten excellent reports but in 45 acp. I don't remember anything about it in 9mm. For the most part, we don't use 9mm.

I got my son a RO for his graduation present.
I will say that its definitely a shooter...I dont see why the 9mm version would be any different.
The only thing I would change is the sights, but that is part of the fun...make it your own.

I've had my R.O. for about a year now and absolutely love it. I'm not an experienced shooter by any means, but fit, finish, quality of parts, and out-of-the-box accuracy are all very good. It feeds my 230 gr. RN loads with 4.5 gr. Bullseye flawlessly and holds a 3 to 4" group at 25 yds. with just a sand bag hand rest and not a lot of effort.

I admit I did have my eye on a Les Baer before I bought the R.O., but the cost and long LONG wait time of the Baer steered me into the R.O. that was in stock (and on my short list). I'm happy it turned out that way as it left me money to buy more guns!

wv109323 There is nothing wrong with a CZ 75 , I'v had a few years ago and they are a good pistol .

22cf45 I'm glad to hear another good report , my right wrist has been broken 3 times and anything bigger than a 9mm takes me out of the game too fast . Reason I chose the Range Officer was that it still has a match barrel but not as expensive as many are and comes in the 9mm option .

My Dad got one in 9mm and he likes it a lot. He mostly just plinks with it around the ranch and slays the occasional gopher with it.

CK out the EAA Elite Match in 9mm ! alot of gun for the money mine was @$580.00 although a little heavy because of the rail on the bottom of the frame for mounting accessories.

I also have a 1990 era Springfield 1911 in 9mm that i added some desirable extras to including a Kart match barrel in 38 super to match my 1911 unlimited 38 super. haven't shot the 9mm barrel since.

Keeping in mind I don't know much about 9mm, it is my understanding to achieve the best accuracy with a 9, you will need to shoot ammo loaded close to max. A 45acp is a different story however, they can be loaded light thereby reducing recoil and still shoot very accurately.

I have a 9mm Range Officer, got it when they first came out last year. Other than putting a short trigger in it, and some Pachmeyr grips, it is stock.
Runs great with factory ammo and my lead reloads. Accurate, reliable. Fun to shoot. Not the prettiest pistol in the world as the parkerizing always looks smudgy, but pretty is as pretty does.
I would buy it again.

I have the .45 ACP version and I couldn't be more pleased. I have no doubt the 9mm version will be as nice. Everything is well fitted, the trigger is wonderful, and it will shoot better than an inch at 25 yards with jacketed or cast. It's a little plain looking, but if you have a mind that can be changed. The only thing I changed on mine was to round the corners of the rear sight. Those were left squarely cut and sharp from the factory, and after the second time I ripped open my right hand I'd had enough. Overall, awesome pistol.

Hi,
I was pulled between a range office and a S&W 1911. Ended up with the S&W as it was a more "all around" pistol and was VERY high quality! Prices are about the same between the two! Just sayin!

Thanks, seagiant. Now I want a Smith 1911. That's an awful purty shootin iron!
