bullshot, WC872 is ~equivalent to WC 860 with respect to burning rate. You may find what you need by searching our archives for posts about WC 872 and/or WC 860. Alternatively, go to the CastPics site and open the Research & Data tab for loading data for WC 872 in a variety of cartridges.

I haven't shot any of mine. I'm saving it till the WC860 runs out.

I'm using it in my 45-70 Gatling Gun. Load is 55 gr. WC872 on top of 4.5 gr. H4198SC and topped with a 405 gr. projectile. Chronographed out of my Ruger # 1 at 1340 FTS. Without the H4198SC on the bottom, it only burns about 1/2 the powder, but with the H4198SC there is no unburnt powder in the barrel. It is a dirty powder but then I only paid $ 1.25 a pound for it. I wish I had bought more as I only have enough to run the Gatling Gun for 10 years at 8-10 thousand rounds a year.

"I only have enough to run the Gatling Gun for 10 years at 8-10 thousand rounds a year."

At 9000 rounds per year that's 707#'s :Fire::Fire::Fire:

And I thought my little 60# stash was a lot. [smilie=s:

Calamity Jake, I made a mistake, counted the powder wrong, should be 8 1/2 years worth at 8000 per year.

Maven -- Thanks for the info. -- I found some useful information. I have been using Accurate 8700 in a 40-65 but it has seemed to have dried up. My local dealer is out and can't find anyone on the internet that has 8 pounders so I bought the WC872. It slower than 8700 so should not be a problem. Thanks again.

brshooter -- Sorry to hear that you're that low on WC872 powder. Sounds like you could wear out your arm loading before the powder is exhausted. Any reason you used 4198 in you're duplex loads as opposed to other powders? I was using four grains of IMR4895 under 52 grains of Acc8700 in my 40-65 which gave reasonable accuracy and burned all the powder. Thanks

Bullshot, It was sort of a toss-up, I had a open 8 lb'er of H4198SC that I didn't need, or use the Vihtavuori N-120 that I have an excess of and now no use for. The N-120 has a burn rate similar to SR-4759 IMR. I thought a fast burning powder would help burn the WC-872 up better. The bottom line was that the 4198 was cheaper. The 4895 is little bit slower than the 4198 but if it works, why not. One thing about the H4198SC and the N-120 they meter better and more consisant through the powder measure, which is not a big deal when I'm just spraying them across the country-side.
