I am going through a bunch of my fathers reloading equipment and trying to identify the pieces. I have two primer seaters, one has a 12 marked on it, I believe this one is 380auto/9mm. The other has a 9 or 6 stamped on it, I can not figure this one out.

Also, I have an expansion die that says 308 on it, is that for .308?

Welcome, Jungle.

Do you perhaps mean shell holders? Each manufacturer uses it's own numbering system (an enormous PIA if you use multiple presses). Lyman's can generally be spotted by the "X" preceding the number. Hornady's have a distinctive machining operation that's a give-away, too.

Pictures are probably necessary in order to help any.

Photos would be helpful in determining exactly what you are looking at, but assuming the primer seaters are Lyman 310 priming chambers and they look something like this:
http://castboolits.gunloads.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=115400&stc=1&d=1409782412

No.12: 38 Colt Auto (and 38 Super), 30 Luger, 9mm Luger, 380 Colt Auto
No.6: 25-35 WCF, 30-30 WCF, 32-40, 38-55, 32 Winchester Special, 22 Savage Hi-Power, 219 Zipper, 219 Donaldson Wasp
No.9: 32 Colt Auto, 32 Smith & Wesson

And yes, the expander is for .308 diameter.

(I see you added photos before I could post this)

Jim,

Thanks for the help! It is going to be a No.6. Any idea about the piece that has "308" on it? I have attached a picture in the previous post.

The expander dies were not "cartridge specific" generally, but came in "short", "medium", and "long" lengths - one length of expanding chamber, with a particular diameter expanding plug, being usable for a variety of cartidges.

Since 30-30 cases are so common, you might check to see whether it fit your #6 priming chamber... if not, it's really a #9 which you can try with any 32 S&W or S&W Long. BTW, if it is a #9 and you don't need it, I'd be interested in purchasing it. :coffee:
