Here is a snap of a wrench I made to take off a free float tube on an AR. These are also the barrel nut and if the fellow who puts them together forgets to moly the threads the aluminum will gall and be some hard to remove. Brownel's sells a strap wrench for this job and it is just a little weak for some of the really tight tubes. This one will pot them right off.

The tube wernch is made from 1/2 steel plate with 5/16 fine thread bolts and the bushing is turned on the lathe from an aircraft resin that is used for airplane parts. I don't know the right name for the stuff but I get scraps of it from a friend in the industry. If you don't have this or good fine grain oak, nylon stock will work just about as well.

Best part of all is it was made from scrap in about an hour for $3.50.

:drinks: Nice work! You are right, the strap wrenches leave a lot to be desired when removing a tight one.

I have a wrench very similar to that that I use to disassemble 60mm M19 mortar tubes with.

ETA: My cheater pipe is somewhat longer, though!
