Does anyone know if there is an inexpensive, trial size sample kit of hi-tek coating available? I don't want to spend $40 on 1/2 liter of chemicals and find out that I don't like it.

My trial sample order from Donnie at Bayou was 4) liters. 2) red copper, 1) gold and 1) black. No regrets whatsoever. Support from Donnie and the board here is fantastic.

Go for it. It's the real deal.

If I could get a small amount of any or many colors that would be great but I definitely don't want/need to spend the money on a whole or even half liter of each color. I would be happy with a few ounces of a couple colors and the appropriate amount of catalyst so that I can practice and perfect my process and see which color(s) I like best before I make a larger investment.

Well I called bayou bullets and Donnie hooked me up with 8 oz of black and 8 oz of red copper for $37.50 plus shipping which is inevitable. At $15 shipping was quite high but since its flammable its a necessary evil. Can't wait to try it out. And he said he'll be getting the powdered formula in a few months which just requires acetone to be added and will be much cheaper to ship

I had wanted to try the powder, but the website I found that sold it wanted $15 for shipping 3.5 oz of that, on top of the purchase price. I know it's just standard marketing, bumping the price with inflated shipping, but I'm not paying $15 to ship anything less than 5 pounds of any kind of powder that is just a powder.

That definitely sounds like gouging on shipping. Donnie said the powder would be much cheaper to ship since the solvent in the liquid coating is flammable and hence more expensive to ship.

Just looked at that site. He charges $15 for a flat rate box! We can ship 70 lbs for that.

Gents,
Unfortunately the liquid coatings have to ship Fed Ex Ground Service, because it is a flammable liquid.
I can offer the liquid in smaller amounts if need be. But shipping is still on the high side due to the required ground service.
USPS does not allow flammables to be shipped "Flat Rate"
USPS Parcel Post, their version of ground service is a nightmare, taking up to 6 weeks for a delivery.
The powders on the other hand will be less expensive to ship.

I ship alot of various size packages and can say for certain $15 is not a bad price. Donnie uses a heavy weight box that he has to buy, someone has to pack the box and print the shipping label. This all takes time and time is money.
It costs me usually around $12 to ship a Lee 6 cavity mold in the original box part way across the states.

Good news that powdered Hi-Tek is going to Swamprat.
You will have some very pretty colours to try and play with and ample supply for all.

Looks like it's on the way.
