Looking to add a new .45 mold to the lineup, and am trying to get two bases covered. Looking at a 200 grain RNFP. I coat with Hi-tech, and would like to go smooth sided. The bullets would be used in 45 ACP, LC, and leverguns. How important is the crimp groove to the cowboy action users? And, is there any feeding issues foreseen in the ACP with the RNFP?

I appreciate any input!

The crimp groove is important in your lever action rifle. Typical mouse phart cowboy rounds are OK in revolvers as long as the case stretch retention is adequate, if you shoot honest full house loads; you need a very secure crimp to keep from locking your cylinder from creeping boolits.

Is PCing legal in SASS?

As mentioned the crimp is quite important as mentioned for uniform (as uniform as it will get) ignition in the 45 Colt and especially if you use the 45 Colt in a lever rifle.

T he 200 grain semi wad cutter works better in the 45 acp. As stated the rnfp need a good crimp fpr the leverguns and some revolvers to prevent creep. If the feed ramp is polished, the rnfp will work. Watch overall length. Too long will jam at the top of the feed ramp entering the barrel.

You want a crimp groove if shooting in a tubular fed mag. Bullet setback can be an issue.

200gr rnfp are my best weight and profile and the the ones I shoot most often in my 45acp/45lc BH and 45lc lever.

I like the Lee 200 RNFP in my .45 acp and .45 Colt, feed well and shoot nice. I have not tried them in a lever but the crimp groove is important in the Blackhawk .45 Colt
