Hey all..
I just read EMC45'S "I Just Did It" post about removing the Gas check band on a Lee mould..

Which got me to thinkin' (OH OH ):groner:

Might a minnie ball type hole in a plain base boolit aid in obturation ??

Anyone heard of such ??
Anyone tried it ??

Some 38 spec. match used a hollow base wadcutter.

There are hollow base .32 wadcutters as well. Usually around .311" diameter, suitable for a .30 if you wanted to try.

Several years ago I pulled down some 7.62 X 54R and it was loaded with 150 gr FMJ's that had a pretty deep hollow base to them. If I remember correctly, the bullets themselves measured .310 and the bore ( to use the term loosely, sewer pipe might be more accurate) slugged .316 on that particular rifle, and it shot them very well. I tried to make HB bullets out of Nosler Partitions, but it never worked out that well, I could not get a hole perfectly in the center of a bullet using a drill press, a lathe would work better.
