Just back from the local gun show and picked up a 2 cavity mold 454485.
It is new, never used, and I paid $25 for it (no handles). I looked on lyman's site, and didn't see (maybe didn't look at the right page) for a top punch. I also got a rcbs lube-a-matic (new old stock) that is also new in box for $75. Are the top punches for lyman and rcbs interchangeable? I have used lee molds and sizer dies, not many as I am a new caster. This bullet will be shot through a 45 colt vaquero and rossi carbine. Any help is appreciated!

RCBS and Lyman top punches AND sizer dies are interchangeable. Ya did good on that RCBS sizer.

From the data shown on Castpics, the Lyman #454485 looks like a gas-check version of the classic #454190 RFN for the 45 Colt.

That looks to be a 454190 with a gas check. Nice find!

I don't know if this is your question or not, but Midway has the #190 top punch for this mould.

It's about $6 or $8, depending on whether or not you have your C&R 03 FFL (for Dealer pricing).;-)

Thanks for the replies! I was asking about the top punch...thank you. Looks like another order for midway; I should buy stock in their company!
I would like to say that this board is extremely helpful and is a tremendous source of information for beginners like me. Thank you all again.

Eljefe, Deputy Al and C1PNR are correct. It is #454190 with a gas check. I have that same mold and shot maybe 100 or so rounds with the gas checks. I didn't see a need for the gas check at 45 Colt velocities, so I had my brother bore out the gas check portion in his milling machine. I now have a wide bottom banded 454190 that shoots real well with a 6 grain Red Dot load in my Blackhawk...Ray

Ray...I also have a deshanked 454485 but mine was a HP. Casts really big...about .456" but sizes down nicely to .452".

Shoots well in either the .45 Colt or in the .45 ACP cylinder of my blackhawk convertible.

Who needs a $.02 GC for a .45 Colt????/beagle

Beagle, I'll have to try that. I have the convertible Blackhawk as well. I just never gave it a thought to try it in the .45 ACP cylinder [smilie=b:...Ray

Having just acquired a couple #454190's a little while ago, I always wondered how they would do in a 45 ACP self-loader. Anyone with info on this? Seems like 800 FPS would be safely possible.

Sundog has, Al. Don't know the powder he used, so maybe he can help us out. ... felix

Deputy Al, I am in the middle of a heavy boolit in the ACP 'speriment. The 454190 is a good one, but I can't get to my load data now - it is all packed up. I think I used book charge of Unique, and it functioned very well. Tony

Awright, that sounds like a pretty good place to start. Gotta finish up some rifle boolits in Taracorp before starting on peestol slugs in WW. I have a major casting effort under way, I really depleted the pistol boolit supply over the past several months and need to re-stock bigtime.
