Just finished it today. There is a baffle inside and a set of fins to help tumble the dirt. We have several railroad spikes clanging around to help break up the clods. This was the first test run with some red clay soil. Our first actual live run at the old range will be next weekend. BTW, we ran a full wheelbarrow load of dirt thru in about 2 minutes.

Very nice
It's great to see someone engineer something that they need from stuff that is available.

Just to clarify, the drum sifts out the dirt, and the lead stays inside, or the drum just breaks it all up, and then you sluice it?

The dirt falls through the screens leaving the lead to be raked out the clean-out hatch on the end opposite the motor.

Where are my ear muffs.... lol nice idea. My LGS range is one of the spots I am mining by hand right now. Every time I walk down I bring back a small ice cream pail of lead

lolz at the volume :P umm mite need a loooong extension cord ( and/or a generator ) to do it at the range

i'm sadly going to wager that only the big/bigger projectiles/pieces stays in the drum but i love the concept and ingenuity !! roc...erm drum on ;)

We have a generator and a long extension cord. The screens we used are 1/4" mesh hardware cloth with expanded metal over them. The largest particles we have had come through the screens are smaller than a .22 bullet so I am confident we will have a very good recovery percentage.

Under the drum you need a vibratory catch ramp so the dust and dirt climbs the ramp and falls into the wheel barrel while heavy metal fragments will get trapped at the bottom. Look for dry sluce gold panning for ideas.

You tend to loose so much of the core weight from HP, SP jacketed rifle bullets that breaks up into little slivers.
