Throating 1873 Winchester

Has anyone tried to throat an 1873 Uberti in 38-40 without pulling the barrel? I can pull the barrel if necessary but would prefer not to if possible. Rifling currently starts right at the case mouth and has a 45 degree angle at the start of the rifling. Bullets just smash right into the rifling and accuracy is just terrible. I've already tried different bullet diameters and different bullet hardness... nothing helps.
