So I finally got around to shooting my old Husqvarna Cape Gun that I acquired last year. Rifle barrel is the usual 12.17 X 44 or just about a 50-70, cases can be made by cutting and fire-forming 348 Win. I had got some loaded rounds with it and decided to shoot them, was going to pull the bullets because not sure how they were loaded. but you got to live a little, take a chance sometimes  What I really wanted to do was work up some buck and ball loads for the 16 bore side. Loading BP is not my first rodeo, doing it for over 50 years but still learn lots of things. Started out with old CIL stuff, 1/2 inch felt wads and 1/8 cardboard and plastic shot cups and cloth patched .600 ball . Horrible, lot of smoke :veryconfu, lot of kick  and 3 1/2 foot group with balls at 50 yards , not sure where the buck went.. Ok so I got to go more modern, ---75 grains FFFG , 1/8 cardboard, Remington SP 16 wads cut at bottom of shot cup, .50 cal muzzle loading cushion wad in bottom of SP, 8 number 4 buck, which worked out square in fours, Some good old cornmeal with a .600 ball just inside the wad petals and star crimped it all in brand new cases. See the pictures below, very pleased with my first target with these loads , I think I could fine tune the sighting. The rifle barrel seems to consistently shoot about four or so inches high with full sight at 50, will try it at 100 Yds and adjust my picture from there. was just shooting over a rolled up coat on bench but fast sort of like I was hunting. Plan on shooting an anterless Cypress Hills Saskatchewan Mulie with this. Cheers.

Finally, a Northerner who doesn't use cream of wheat! Nice load, that ought to do a jumper in.

That is a serious weapon, friend. Don't restrict yourself to lowly deer; you are loaded for bear.

Now then Hogtamer that is just downright nasty! You hurt my feelings! Mind you if we had grits here I would give them a go. Cornmeal we do have but I found good 'ol COW worked better as filler in my .303's so I use it for pretty much all filler use now.

Yup, nice old gun and good to see it put to use. That Herters scale must have a few miles on it too!

That is a marvelous gun you have there! Strange configuration for a cape gun, thought, that the rifled barrel normally is at the right side and is operated by the front trigger, which is mostly a set-trigger?

Thanks so much for all the nice comments!!! Very much enjoy reading the threads on this site. I love my old Husqvarnas, I have four different model configurations of that Lafaucheux bottom lever in different gauges of shotgun. The Swedish term for them is a Dubbelelbossa. The so called cape gun above is the model 17 and as I remember by my ser. # was made around 1900 and has steel barrels of course. It is as you say Paul, strange with the rifle on the left, I have trouble remembering that and when I want to shoot the rifle always want to cock the right side. I will post back if I get to witness the demise of that old Saskatchewan Mulie Deer Doe. Cheers

I would love to own one! The only Husqvarna I own is an early deluxe Lefaucheux version with nice engraving and damascus barrels with wedge fastening. This gun however is not shootable anymore because of its badly pitted barrels

Brings tears to my eyes as a Swede to see those old guns beeing taken care of and brought back to use..
To many old guns goes to scrap or sells abroad for nothing instead of staying ..
We are only allowed to own 6 longguns here.. so when someone wants a new plastic/stainles cnc machined rifle, off goes grandpa´s heritage

Think I have to go to the husqvarna factory Museum again.. thats only 45 min drive from me.. they have some nice guns there !

Gawd I wish I could go with you Swede!!! Here below is a couple pics of some of my Husqvarnas 1870 to 1970, last spring at local gun show. This is my lifetime collection starting with the first Hi-Power Dad bought in 1948, I started chewing on them as soon as I got teeth.
I think people that appreciate the old Huskys are the nicest people in the world, but I might be one of them predigested fellows. LOL

Cypress Hills!!! Brother! I live a hour north of you in Leader. Mule deer rifle indeed. I wish you the very best of adventures with your new old friend. Many times I have looked at those cape guns ( at Tradex) and wondered just what kind of effort it would take to be able to shoot and hunt with one. Thanks for the post, it really got my mind juices flowing.
