Just started casting and have some 7mm soupcans w/GCs that I want to load for my 10" 7TCU and 14" & 16" 7-30 waters. I have been digging around on this site and really can't find a thread that addresses my questions so here it goes.

I am casting straight water dropped WW and they are dropping at 132 grains. Lubed with 45/45/10. I have had good luck with 2400 in the 7tcu with 120 Jword and RL15 in the 7-30 waters with the same bullet. I am sizing using the Lee push thru sizer at .285, I also have a .284 sizer that I haven't used yet. I intend on seating just short of the rifling and have been told I shouldn't crimp.

Powders I have available:
RL-15
Varget
RL-10x
IMR-4227
H110
2400
H322
H335

Any of you old timers that have developed good loads with either of these cartridges with the 130 soup? Also any other recommendations on my current setup?

Thanks,

Rosewood

http://www.castbullet.com/shooting/7tcu2.htm Junior Dougherty, RIP had a great write up on it in a 7 TCu that has worked well for me. I started with 12.5 gr of WC820 {AA9 burn equivelant} and worked to 14.9 gr with the best accuracy coming in at less than top loading.

Thanks, I actually had already found that article a few weeks back. I was glad to see the results of the expansion test on the soupcan.

load for my 10" 7TCU and 14" & 16" 7-30 waters. Powders I have available: 2400 Rosewood

From my tinkering around with Unique and 7-30 Waters, a pistol powder is good enough for cast boolit loads. Also used Unique in my 6.8 Remington SPC Contender.

I have used 8.0gr Unique and a 120gr 285448 in the 7-30, and 5.0gr behind a 280468 109gr in the 6.8 SPC.

2400 was one of the powders that might work, I don't have any loads for it offhand....

You definitely want to stay away from using that H322 and H335!! You should probably gey rid of it as soon as possible. I'll even volunteer, at grave personal risk, to get rid of it for you.:mrgreen::mrgreen: In all seriousness, H335 is my absolute favorite powder for the 7TCU. I don't have a 7-30 Waters, but H335 also works well in my 30-30 barrel, so it should be close. Best wishes

H322. Will do good in the waters with your boolit. I can't remember the charge off hand but it was a couple of grains below starting for jacketed

I was using H322 in the 10" 7TCU with a 120 j-word and was getting severe muzzle blast. So loud it was startling others at the gun range. Started using 2400 and it seemed to tone it down a bunch. H322 seemed fine in the longer 14" barrels though. May give it a shot in the 7-30. I went from H335 to H322 in the 14" .223 barrel as the H322 seemed to have less muzzle blast than the H335. I would have expected significant muzzle blast with H335 in the 10" with the 7TCU. How bad is it?
Thanks,

It didn't seem bad but honestly I was just looking for groups . The muzzle blast from my 10 in 30 Herrett. With 24.5 gr. IMR. 4198 and 150gr. J words is like touching off a cannon

Tried out some loads in the 16.25" 7-30 barrel and the 10" 7tcu today using the soupcan that dropped at 132 grains and sized to .285". These velocities may not be real accurate as I was experiencing large variations but I suspect it was the chronograph having issues with the low angle of the sun as well as clouds in and out and some rain.
All groups at 50 yards.

7-30
27.0 h322 1.0" 3 shot 2056 fps
28.0 h322 1.75" 5 shot (3 touching) (was raining, had to bring in the chrony)
29.1 h322 2.9" 5 shot shotgun!! 2298 fps

7tcu
18.0 IMR4227 1.565" 3 shot 1689 fps
19.1 IMR4227 1.50" 4 shot +(1 flyer opened it up was ignored) 1788 fps
20.0 IMR4227 1.69" 5 shot group 1934 fps (this is good enough for hunting)

No signs of pressure on any loads and didn't see any obvious leading in either barrel, just looked dirty from burnt powder as normal with j-word bullets.

The accuracy didn't come close to the 120 sierra PH bullets I usually use which easily shoot <3/4" at 50, but I think with some practice and more tuning I might be able to match that accuracy.

I think I am gonna like this casting thing. It is going to save me a lot of money on bullets and I don't have to wait for them to get in stock.

I am really quite pleased with the results considering I am new at casting. I have melted down wheel weights, poured, lubed and sized them and loaded and I have accuracy plenty good enough to hunt. It can only get better me thinks.

My 7mmTCU, 10" bbl likes 20.0gr of H4198 with the Lee SC boolit. The J-word bullet 130gr SPBT does nicely at 22.0gr H4198. The velocity on the 22gr 130SPBT is 1780fps.
