I was wondering what the proper maintaince of a Full Length Sizing Die would be? I just looked at my Lee 22-250 FL die, which was used when I got it. It had rust in it, and other forms of dirt. I am guessing they should be cleaned up from time to time.

4 aught steel wool on a cleaning rod, followed by some flitz on a patch. Any pits, trash can.

No No ... No Trash can... Some folks modify them, and would rather Not wreck a "good un" ! [smilie=1: MV

Well, most anything can benefit from a good cleaning from time to time. And it's inexpesive enough to do it often. I clean my dies before each use. A spritz of carborator or brake cleaner followed by wiping out with toilet tissue wrapped around a pencil does a good job, quickly.

Its amazing how much dirt comes out of a "clean" die. If not too gummy I try and use a long cotton swab after each use, dipped in acetone works good. Once a die is pitted I'd buy another

I clean my dies every 1000 rounds with Hoppe's Elite foaming stuff.

I use WD-40 on a patch on a handgun rod , before and after use. It is a lot better cleaner than it is a lubricant.

That's cause WD40 is a water displacement.

I clean my dies just like I clean my barrel. I use Hoppe's bore cleaner on a patch and a cleaning rod--after I have taken the die apart, of course. I then dry with clean patches and lightly oil just like my rifle bore. This has worked for me for over 45 years now so I don't think I am going to change. I have never had a rusty die in that time either.
