I'm smitten with a Shiloh that I just purchased. It is a plain jane Business Rifle 1874 in 45-70

I'm going to be hunting antelope in Wyoming in Nov some 3 hrs away from the factory so I was thinking of stopping by so that I can look at the different rifles and finishes and make a call on what I like. Bit fancier but still in a 45-70.

I don't plan on using this for matches but just for fun at the range and to pass down to my kids. Going to get each of my boys initials on each side of the receiver. So maybe a little bit of nice engraving.

Looking to spend about $3500 US on the rifle and sights so not a high dollar Shiloh.

What would you guys spend your money on with that budget ? Model? Wood?

Follow your plan to look for yourself. If you need advice about various features, the people at that store are fully qualified to guide you. From that personal experience you can decide on what you like best.

Asking your question here simply means you will find out what other people like.

what CM said.

MY personal would be the Roughrider in a 44-77 cal with a regular weight oct barrel of 28 inch length. the Winchester style scope mounted. with semi-fancy wood and pack hardened. shotgun butt with the silver forend cap. probably have sling swivels mounted as well for the hunting aspect.

but as CM stated ... that is MY personal favorite setup and your style may very well differ from mine. every body has their own stuff that appeals to em so only you could possibly make the right decision on a mere $3500 dollar rifle.

i would consider a C Sharps hiwall too. these are a favorite of mine as well and as you are rite there ... why not compare apples and oranges?

I have to agree with MC. Get what you want, my ideas are totally opposite of bigted, which is why they offer so many variations.
(There is one on GB, for around $8k that I like)

I have a pair of Sharps rifle : A Pedersoli Quigley in 45-90 and a Shiloh #1 in 45-110

I love them both and both shoot amazingly well. I did spring for the better wood on the Shiloh....

#1 Sporter with a Baldwin rear and MVA windage adjustable front for paper punching.
