2 shot group; .224 swaged 55 grain HP projectile at 100 yards.

Rifle is a Mossberg Predator 5.56 caliber (not 223); 1/9 twist, 18 1/2" barrel; Swift 4-12x40 scope. Temp was 101, mild wind from the West.

Handload is once fired LC trimmed to 1.750", XXgr of IMR-3031, OAL is 2.252 (yes, I know its .002 over length). The best group with factory ammo was about 2 1/2 - 3".

Looks like I've found my "Go To" handload for coyote and hogs.

maybe, depending on how the bullet is constructed.
I have made the same bullet components act like a fmj, a regular C&C bullet, and a varmint bullet...

I'm not going question your shooting but a two shot group is not a group- min is 5 better yet 10. If you got that doing two shots then you should be able to get 5 or 10 very close to the same . Then there will be zero doubt on your bullets or you as the shooter. Either way a bug hole with home made is always a good thing!

A few weeks ago I had 3 touching at a little over a hundred yd. The next two openned the group to 3/4". This was with j-words but you really should do 5 shots or more. Having said that, it does look like you are on to something. Darn close to the diamond too. Care to expound on your swaging procedure? Always good to know the details like brass used for jackets, cores swaged once or twice, etc...

You also get bonus points for putting up with 101 degree heat! I think we are done with that so we have a few weeks before mud season part 2.

Sorry, but a two shot group? Multiple 5 shot groups will begin to show potential.

Even though just 2 rounds, still mighty fine shooting. If you put the first one where it belongs, you don't need 5 or ten to get the job done. Shootin meat and shootin paper is two different schools. Shootin meat, always make your first shot your best cause you may not get a second one. Iron whittler

Sorry, but a two shot group? Multiple 5 shot groups will begin to show potential.

The rifle, not even a target grade rifle, had only been sighted in with MilSurp ammo previously. We switched the scope for better magnification and versatility. The reason this was only a 2-shot group was the other 7-8 shots were to re-zero the scope. Fine tuning produced the 2-shot group. Its nothing more than a "Start", my friends.

Good shooting! Are you sure the second one even made it to the paper? :kidding:

Were the bullets made from homemade jackets?
If so what was your material?

I didn't make the profectiles myself. I got a handfull of samples to try.

From what I understand, the projectiles are made from once fired 22LR empties on B-T dies.

While I agree swaged bullets can be accurate, a 2 shot group isn't much of a measuring stick. This 3 shot group looked great until a couple more shots. Still not bad for free jackets. From my 20" hvy AR.

Fredj338-It looks identical to the group I was talking about. Shot #4 was a heartbreak wasn't it! :( Now, was it a bad bullet/load or buck fever after seeing the first three?!

Honestly, couldn't really see the holes, cuz they were in the black. I suspect the bullets, but could have been me, it was a bit windy that day.

I think a 2 shot group is fine but 1 shot 1 buck is better.
I use to shoot 5 shot groups the gun got to hot and I kept running out of ammo.
With the problems I have been having buying bullets I may have to bite the boolit and get a set of swage dies.

Close. They were done on RCE dies, 6S ogive, Walnut Hill press. Can't remember the head stamp, I'm thinking Aguila? My best group so far has been a five shot group at .400 inches at 100 yards.

Glad to see they are working for you[emoji41]
