Sounds like a joke... but really, a pig walks into a bar...
I have a pound of H4831SC from a never completed preperation to load for the .264 Win Mag (gods above, a 26" full bull Encore barrel in 264WM! Can you imagine beating a Grizzly to death with just the barrel?).
I want to run an RCBS 7mm-145-SIL about 1,100-1,400 in my 7-30 Waters T/C Contender Carbine WITHOUT beating it to death. I just czeched Lyman's 4th Ed CBH, and they don't list either flavor of 4831....
Anyone with a similar powder / boolit / case combination? Similar weight boolit, like 135 to 160-ish grains. It can be somewhat faster, but I don't expect to go hunting with it.. yet...

34 grs in the 30-30 is nearly compressed and gives 1800 fps with either a 150 or 170 gr boolit.
it burns surprisingly clean too, but is on the ragged edge of just working.
11-1400 fps might be a bit too far down the scale for this one.
if I were to try [had no other options]
I'd have to go with a fairly hot primer and a tuft of Dacron to try and get the powder to burn.

I suggest you read P O Ackley's comments about shooting reduced loads with slow burning powders. He contributed most action failures to this phenomenon.

yep to the BULLET stopping in the barrel and the powder building up pressure behind it.

Well heck, I was going to stuff it with Bullseye until I remembered that bottle of H4831SC. Maybe I can breech seat a 145-SIL in front of a 120gr Nosler Ballistic tip. Who wants popcorn?

So what wouldn't be a reduced capacity load of 4831 in the 7-30?

My choice would be slow burning pistol powder or fast burning rifle powder !
Lyman's 4th Ed CBH, and they don't list either flavor of 4831....
Ummm , could be a real good reason for them not listing it.

Heck, then let's do a duplex load. Some super fast pistol powder to start everything, followed by some real slow stuff for 50 caliber. Pop in a magnum primer for spice. Maybe grease the brass so it shoots faster?
