So in a box of assorted case's I found this .... Inside neck diameter is .255 case length is 2.47 and the head stamp is LC 53 any thoughts would be greatly appreciated114259114260114261

Lake City 1953 blank. there is a cardboard wad that is held in by the crimp ring.

Thx guys never seen anything like this in any of the odd ball box's of brass I buy... Any idea the caliber it would be for?

It is a .30-06 blank.

Looks just like the cases my buddies & I would pick up on the sidewalks in front of the VFWs after The Memorial Day salutes were fired in the late 50's early 60's...Those older Gentlemen Veterans were using old Springfields. Definitely blanks.

Yes, those are .30-06 blanks intended for use in 1903 Springfields and M1 Garands. Rifle Grenade cartridges will have a star crimp, rather than a flat roll crimp and cardboard wad in place of the bullet. The wads are red, to make it easy to see if the case is loaded or not. Shot lots of them through Garands with a BFA attached to cycle the action.

I've got a Garand clip full of them unfired - 30-06 blanks.

We fire a bunch of those every year from our Garand salute guns here in the American Legion. Blank 30-06.

Hope you clean them afterwards, they are corrosive.
