I ordered this rifle a few months ago. Worked up a couple Jword loads But, the cast boolit bug has bitten :veryconfu
I would like to get it right the first time. I have reloaded pistol and rifle since 1983 that part not so new.
Cast 148 and 158 for 38/357 but thats all. Want to cast me very own 500 Boolits.
Tell me about your fav. mold who made it, boolit style, weights, fav. loads you worked up etc, etc.

I have hornady brass, 300-mp, AA#9, VV- n110 a little jag of H110 and IMR 4227 for powder
and probably some others that might work.
There is just something about a BIG BOOLIT
Hello to All and thanks in advance!!!

I shoot a 6.5 X frame pistol with a midrange load. We have shot this load in a friends 20" barreled Encore, shot extremely well.

27.5 gr V 110
Federal 210
6.5" revolver 1340 FPS

I loaded some 310 wfn with the V-110 for my boys 44 rem. mg. Handi rifle. Boom smack, Boom smack, We laugh when we shoot it cause it sounds like a splitting mal hittin that big chunk of red oak firewood at 50 yds.

Those are some nice looking wfn, and should handle most anything coming out of a 20 inch pipe.
MP 300 meters well love it in 357/44 mag.

i shoot my 500 SW mag handi alot, i've tried many powders and even BP. for use with BP i designed a bullet weighing just about 500 grs that is a double diameter bullet which lets me load it with the huge grease groove covered and taper crimped. bullet shoots well with smokeless powder also. Accurate made the mold for me and it is labeled 50-500B. i am able to get 65 grs of BP in the case with compression of the powder giving me 50-70 velocities (carbine). the best store bought bullet is the oregon trails 370 gr gas checked bullet with 20 grains of Blue Dot powder. when i load the 50-500B bullet with smokeless powder i use 30 grs of aa5744 or 20 grs of bluedot filling the case full of puff-lon filler and seating the bullet to cover the grease groove and taper crimping. 4227 works well also, JimP.114661

Lee has a .500 mold, I believe it is 440gr, I have it and do well with LB soft blue lube.
I have used my little lathe to cut a recess for a gas check, but have had no leading without one if I keep the velocity under 1400 fps.

i have that bullet loaded to 1250 fps, when i shot the swinging steel plate at 50 yds, it hit so hard it wrapped the steel plate around the hanger and pulled up the stakes holding the target to the ground and knocked the swinging target loose from the ground and tipped it over. it whacked it good. SPLANG.....wow.....LOL JimP.

Been shooting the 500 in the Handi-Rifle for a several years now. Cast gas check bullets are all I ever shoot. I do not cast my own however I buy commercial bullets and the cheapest ones I can find. Performance has been excellent. I like Matt's Bullets but their prices went up too much when the madness started. I either buy now from Montana Bullet Works or Western Cast Bullets.

A 350gr pill at over 2100fps is utter destruction at anything it hits. My barrels always stay shiny clean.

I would not attempt to shoot a full house load out of the handi-rifle without a gas check.

Would like to see a pic of the muzzle break and where did you find one? I took the butt plate off and filled the stock cavity with lead shot and put a soft rubber slip on recoil pad over the butt. Those two things helped a good bit.

Lee has a 440gr gas check bullet mold, #90991. Very nice performing bullet.

muzzle break www.wittmachine.net i ordered the slip on...barrel measure at muzzle was .875 and 1 1/2 inches from muzzle was .885.

with some of the heavy weight bullets i shoot, the break will come in handy on my Handi...LoL...JimP.

A few ounces of lead in the stock of the heavy hitters does help, and the muzzle brake a must if the .500 were to be used on regular basis.

I thought they'd quit making the handi in 500sw. I'd love to get one too.

The Handi will shoot the 50 cal muzzle loader stuff that Lee makes. I like the new fangled minie ball which is a 365 grain hollow base wadcutter. It works well with pistol powders for cheap thrills. I started with 6.4 grains of Unique. The boolits got to the target. I plan to test out some other fast powders.

Fellas, it's a muzzle "brake" to slow down recoil, like the brakes on your car. GW
