Anyone here using accurate molds in Ruger blackhawk. Looking, thinking about a 270-300 grain hunting style bullet.

I just got a five-cavity 45-265VG. Love it. Tom will make anything you want.

May I suggest the 45-270-SAA style boolit. I'm sure Tom has one logged.

I've put together 8-9 45 Caliber revolver boolits over at Accurate Molds ranging from 230 grains all the way up to 345 grains. My designs are more of a LFN style design with about a 75% meplat and a tangent nose ogive. Tom over at Accurate Molds is very good and his customer service is top in class as well.

Accurate molds are all I use for the .45 colt any more. Like Rob above said I use a 235 all the way up to my favorite which is a 345 wlfn design

That 345 wlfn of yours is a good one and I would own it if I didn't shoot a lever action too.

I had a good teacher help me design it

I'm thinking my next mold may be from him. The 45-300E, with some minor changes, is roughly what I'm looking for.

I was just a fly in the room making noise in the background. [smilie=f: :)

45-300E wouldn't be a bad one especially if only planning on shooting from a Ruger Large Frame BH......the nose is long. I can't tell if that is a secant nose profile or not but a tangent profile will give you a little more bearing surface which can have beneficial effects. I don't think you need the GC necessarily unless you have a revolver that can be picky when shooting cast boolits so this addition would make life easier.

I have become a big believer in the tangent nose profile. In my guns and the loads I have shot they have been the most accurate. I also don't think gas checks are needed. I've come close to 1400 fps it was by accident and not what I was trying for or recommended but even then I had no leading. But and there is always a but if like RobS stated some guns are picky and a gas check can ease the pain of finding the one load and the gas check can give you several loads

I leave the design work to those that know it. I wish Tom had a bit more info or notes on some of the catalogue stuff.
Got the pistola yesterday and have some slug and pin gauge work to do. So am in no big hurry yet for a mold. Tried to order dies and brass and all were out of stock in 45 colt. At least I can play with the acp cylinder for a while.

Removal of the gas check was the primary minor change I had in mind.

If you can get hold of a 45 Colt shellholder, just use the ACP dies on the 45 Colt brass. Did it for years before I happened onto the Colt dies. Might overwork the brass some, but it'll hold the bullet tension tight.

Wow there are a lot of 45 cal. drawings!

Tom at Accurate did the 45-300G for me. It has a SAA length nose and feeds through a lever.

This one is an excellent one too and one that I shot a lot. It was a group by done here quite some time ago.

The RCBS 45-270SAA is the most accurate bullet I have ever tried in all 5 of my .45 Colts, my FA 454 tends to like the heavier bullets.
