I'd like to have a set of pin gauges to check the cylinder throats on my 38/357 pistols. I took a look on Brownells and Midway and didn't seem to find any through their searches. I'd like to probably have .355, .356, .357, .358 and .359 - not sure just what would be included in a set? Am I using the correct search term "pin gauges"? Can anyone steer me in the right direction of where I could purchase a set or post a link? Thanks.

http;\www. Enco.com I got a great set of pin gauges from them .251-.500 for under a hundred dollars delivered to my door. Can probably get smaller sets also. GP

There are some places that sell individual pins so you don't need to buy a whole set. Find some sellers on ebay.

ENco has sets and possibly individuals. Most tool shops that carry machinists tools have or can get them in sets or by size. T&S on airport Highway outside of Toledo has them. I believe they are in Holland Ohio.

Buy the whole set. You'll know how many you use by the number of pins with no grease paper on them. My set has a lot with no paper!

fortunately, I work for a precision ball manufacturer. We just silver solder the correct ball size (within 25 millions) on a double ended pin.

Never thought to ask if we could make up sets in 5/10000 increments..

I got mine from Enco Tools online, on sale. You want the minus set,
.0002" less than the marked size, so it will go in.

I got mine from watching craigslist, got a nice American made set for $100. Usually the sets go from .251 to .500, I think.

McMaster Carr has individuals.

Ditto on this. Plus, their service is second to none, and charge the least for shipping. Thirty years experience with them, have I.

If you are only looking to do the one caliber M-C is probably the way to go. I have a problem with always trying to buy anything I could conceivably ever need in the future instead of what I need now.

McMaster Carr doesn't have all the sizes in stock, they ship what they have, then ship the rest of your order when they get it in. Meaning if you order 10 pcs and they only have 5, you pay to ship those, they get in 2 more, you pay again to ship those, they get in 2 more, pay again, get in the last one and you pay yet again for shipping. Pin gages = $30. Shipping = $50. No Thanks...

Call Meyer Gage company on the phone, order exactly the ones you need, US made, they are the maker of them, they have them in stock, and will ship quick. Phone: 1-888-Pin-Gage (1-888-746-4243)

For revolvers I order ZM which is minus .0001" tolerance. I order half sizes and whole sizes. I also use the pilots that come in the Manson reamer kits from Brownell's since all they are is a pin gage with a hole in it. Example the .45 Colt cylinder throat reamer pilot kit starts at .4485" and runs by half thousandths to .451" so I order pin gages from Meyer Gage all the way from .4515" to .4525" so now I am covered from .4485" to .4525" works out pretty good.

bedbugbilly you would probably want the following part numbers from Meyer Gage if you want to cover all the bases from .354" to .359:" 354ZM, 3545ZM, 355ZM, 3555ZM, 356ZM, 3565ZM, 357ZM, 3575ZM, 358ZM, 3585ZM, 359ZM

They run about $3.30ea or maybe less, but this will get you in the ballpark.

I have done business with McMaster for twenty years and not one time had that experience. Shipping for small items has been trivial.
