A friend approached me this weekend and said that he had a 256 Newton on a Jap 6.5A action, but couldn't find any load data for it. Said he had dies for forming and loading etc. Does anybody out there have any load data for the old ctg. I am inclined to say that starting loads for the 250-3000 would not be a bad place to start, but that is only a guesstimate. Thanks in advance to all who answer this thread.

My 8th Edition of Barnes' Cartridges of the World lists 3 loads:

120 gr. SP IMR 4350 55 gr. 2980 FPS

130 gr. SP IMR 4895 46 gr. 2900 FPS

140 gr. SP IMR 4831 57 gr. 2890 FPS

Factory load was a 129 gr. SP at 2760 FPS.

Just passing along what's in the book. I don't have a .256 Newton and have no experience loading them.

Every loading manual has .260 Remington loads that should keep you out of trouble. It might even be possible to judiciously increase the .260 loads a bit because the Newton case is somewhat larger.

Isn't the 256 Newton about the same size as the 25-'06? I didn't realize the Arisaka action was long enough to handle the '06 length.

Thanks for the info guys. Will forward it to my friend. As to length of a 6.5 Jap action, :coffee: sorry but I don't know.
