Hey guys, been reloading for about 10 years or so and just decided to get into casting a few months back and made my first cast about 2 weeks back. Other sites recommended CastBoolits if you cast, so here I am. I think I am hooked on casting. I now find myself scanning the ground every time I walk across a parking lot looking for liberated wheel weights. I even find myself looking to see what type of wheel weights are on the adjacent car at a traffic light.
Anyone else have these problems? Will it get worse?

My son will laugh when I pick up a WW and say in a loud and proud voice "I found a boolit".
Keep looking for lead, it does not get better.

Yep. That's the symptoms of a hooked caster. Welcome to the addiction.

I am guessing one day I will be able to tell you how many boolits I can get out of that size of wheel weight.
It is like finding change on the ground.

Not bad enough to cast when it's 100 outside!

Every time I go to the range I spend 75% of my time doing two things: picking up brass and digging bullets out of the dirt berm.

I have been casting in 90+deg weather, got my pot and burner sit just inside my garage in the shade and a fan blowing for ventilation and cooling.
I always spend time looking for brass and this last trip, I dug in the berm for scrap lead for the first time. Took a colander with me so it would be easier to sort.

I was in Florida on vacation and had stopped at a Costco. Found a wheel weight on the ground and was happy. Put it in my carryon bag for the plane. Wonder what the xray person thought? :castmine:

Bad enough to make over 500,000 cast boolets and shoot most of them myself in the last 45 years !
Every time i go to the range i always scrounge for brass at the shooting line and bullets at the target berm, been doing it so long its a habit ! that pays off i have collected well over 20,000 pieces of brass and a few tons of cast & jacketed boolets , in my last big smelt i ended up with 47 lbs of bullet jackets.

I just started casting a few months ago and yes I still watch intersections for weights. Just couple days ago I (I think) convinced a tire shop to save weights for me. We will see how well that goes in a month or so.

"Bad" is a Christmas tree timer hooked to your PID so the pot is almost to temp when you pull in the driveway after work. :holysheep

Bad is when your 4 tumblers make so much noise, it keeps you and the neighbors awake.
Bad is when the conversation at work drifts around to reloading and you can pull cartridge and boolit samples out of your pocket.
When I get to the point of keeping my casting pot on my nightstand, as mentioned above, I know I'm about where I need to be.

Not in my pocket, but I have 2 45 Colts cartridges on my desk with no primer or gun powder that I use to explain reloading a lot.

I have some brass, bullets, and wheel weights in a plastic bag in my briefcase for the super secret discussions when I try and educate. I work for the County Government and Heaven forbid anyone knows I am pro-gun.

I have samples from every mould I have lined up on the ledge of a back wall of the desk in my office, hope to add another boolit to the display Monday after I break in my new NOE mould this weekend.

I started a business so I could get reloading stuff at cost...
... about eight months later I am making "industrial" size orders.

Try and explain to visitors why you need 10 reloading presses set up to reload and not sound like you are some kind of terrorist.I may have issues, then again I just could be a enthusiast... Teddo
