I have been shooting my trapdoor 45-70 and somehow trimmed a few cases short they measure out at 2.085 to 2.095 are these ok to load up and shoot.
Thanks

The only problem you'll have is seating the bullet and crimping if the crimp die is set up for a longer case. The "trim to length is 2.095" anyway so you're not short on some and very, very little short on some. You're fine where you're at.

with smokeless loads likely no problem except with a crimp as noted. Hornady brass is short at about 2.08" and is a problem with full BP loads if a crimp is used. I've stopped saving Hornady .45-70 brass for that reason.

The next purchase of 2.10" cases of 45-70's ... Don't Do Any Trimming!

My last batch of star lines were 2.095.... Where can you get the 2.105's? It seems like all that I come by are trim length....hum....

They get longer when you size them. Size and check length again.

Jerry, be careful of throwing away ALL Hornady brass. the leverevolution rounds are shorter than OEM as the pointed tip makes the OAL longer so they just made shorter brass ... the regular rounds that shoot the 350 flat nose and such should be the full 2.095 length and in my opinion as for strong brass ... you will go some to get any better than the Hornady brass if it is the regular loaded cases.

If any of you guys want to stretch your cases a bit get Tim Smith-Lyons very economical case stretcher. The last time I checked the price was $39.95 plus
shipping, but you will need a RCBS full-length or neck only resizing die to use it in. For more details see my article on case stretching:

Without an accurate measurement of your chamber depth, you can't know how well a case fits it.
