I think he was the funniest man alive, dies of depression.

I am confused how some one with that much money can not come up with something better than dying.

I guess if you make your own stuff it gives you some drive. I would need to live to be 300 yr old to finish half my projects much less use them as much as I'd like.

I enjoyed a lot of his work. My favorite will always be the special radio broadcast he did for "us" on Armed Forces Radio, during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. It was "Good Morning Saudi" similar to his "Good Morning Vietnam." I will have to find the recording I made and listen to it again.

May he finally find peace from the Demons that haunted him in life.

For someone to be so mentally troubled to resort to taking their life is a sad thing. We can only wonder what could trouble anyone this badly. So sorry to hear.

Tho I don't like scratching chit with the chickens but many times it is better than living a life of luxury. Most times it is not what it appears to be.

May he RIP and his demons be vanquished to were they belong. He will be missed greatly.

Robin Williams was a genius. He understood and loved Johnathan Winters because they both had minds that ran on a clock faster than most of us. Both had demons that they had to fight becuase of that gift.

When I heard of this I wished he would have simply called to say Hi to one fan. Each of us could have tried to give him a reason for one more day, one day at a time. He had millions of fans.

RIP, you will be missed.

The fight we fight is spiritual and we fight with carnal methods. When will this country wake up? We send our military over seas to fight for freedom, with the most advanced weapons; only for them to come home and perish for the lack of knowledge. We might be winning the battles but the war is being lost right here at home.

Maybe the fact he was depressive made him make people laugh and being happy as much as possible.

I think a fine man has left us, I hope he now finds his peace.

I called one of my best friends just a few minutes ago and we talked about Robin Williams. I called him mainly because this same type of tragedy struck almost 2 years ago now when my friends youngest boy committed suicide at 17. I will say that mental illness of all forms really needs to be addressed by our society. RIP Kyle and Robin. May God Bless Them and Keep Them in the Palm of His Hand!!!!!

Something like 33% of people who have heart surgery end up with some form of depression. The link between the two is very well documented and known. Depression that stems from heart surgery usually isn't the kind people just "get over" if it lasts more than two weeks after the surgery. It is sad he didn't get help, serious clinical depression can completely change a personality and make someone do things they would normally never consider or be capable of if they were in their right mind. Some people aren't even capable of seeking help for themselves the depression gets so bad. We'll probably never know the truth of how bad his was, or if he sought help etc. It is just a really sad situation all the way around. Yes, suicide is incredibly selfish but when someone has clinical depression many times the suicide has nothing to do with selfishness. It is simply the person is no longer in complete control of their mind and their actions. They are mentally ill and need help not condemnation.

I truely believe excess wealth causes more problems than it's worth. Now he may or may not have died with excess wealth...but he definitely had excess wealth during many times of his life. His excess of wealth surely didn't solve his depression/dependancy issues...I suspect the money made it worse.
That's my 2¢ worth of philosophy for the day.

He's dead yes that's sad but he was reported to be a very liberal person and said to have held opinions contrary to what most of us probably hold. If we wanna talk about the illness of depression fine but let the guy go in peace. He was just another human being and no more special than anyone else, yes he had a talent but so does most everyone else. Many here have a talent for writing, others for troubleshooting and many more for educating.

A very good point. Combined with his pre-existing problems this might have been just too much for him to handle.

I have know men who had the same personality as Robin Williams, that is to say they were always turned on. They felt the need to constantly entertain others. It could be funny for a short time but within an hour or so, I couldn't get away from them fast enough. Everyone I have seen on TV said he was of that type, always on. All my life I have heard that money will not buy happiness. Well I am willing to testify in any court in the land that poverty will not buy it either.

some people are wired differently. some people never see suicide as an option. others, think about it everyday, always an option. to be in that place of thinking about it everyday, can consume every bit of energy and desire that one has. suicide everyone says, is selfish. that may be true, but those that say that have no idea what that life is. from what i know, it is a tormented, painful existence, only subdued by the thought that maybe one day it will end.

i would guess that in his own mind, there was a fatigue from fighting it off.

i did not care for his politics, nor some of his movies.

let his passing be what it most likely is, stopping the torment that existed in his mind.

No, not that one. He was being interviewed by a female Journo, I think it was the Australian 60 minutes. Poor woman kept trying to wrap up the interview and thank him, and he would just go off on another line of jokes, after about 5 minutes of that he started on a couple of minutes of jokes on the interview never ending, I was laughing so hard I cannot even remember the journalist.

I never counted him as one of the funniest men alive. Back in the 80's I saw him live on stage for his standup act...he was so coked up to be a patently miserable experiance for all involved.
And hearing his interviews he did years ago he wore proudly his vitriolic left wing bent proudly like an albatross. It's no small wonder his inner demons got him to "cross the road".
He had his comedic moments but he was not a blazing star of an actor or comedian.

Different time when it was acceptable. Back then they all "played the hits.". Paying someone to write material for you is perfectly fine. Notice I said pay, not steal. A thief is a thief is a thief. It was not acceptable or common practice to steal someone else's material when Robin was performing standup. He was a good dramatic actor. He was a one trick pony that always played the same character comedically.

I actually liked his serious drama acting much more than his comedy, however he did make me laugh too. Mostly his comedy was off the cuff, and sometimes it did nothing for me, but once in a while he'd get me roaring with something original. He did a couple of 'Law and Order' episodes that were great. But his best was in Good Will Hunting and What dreams may come. I also liked Bicentennial Man.

Well they always say these come in three's.... James Garner, Robin Williams, and now Lauren Bacall.

That has got to be the worse analogy. Posting a joke on an internet forum is nothing like stealing an act. Standup is a profession. Their act is their tool. I'm sure you don't someone stealing your tools. Developing an act is extremely hard and if you haven't tried to I wouldn't expect you to understand.

I was thinking about the movie he was in "What Dreams May Come" and the irony. The movies premise, if you have not seen it, was a man (Robin Williams) trying to save his wife from a form of hell after she had taken her own life. I thought he was excellent in that role, come to find it may be because of his understanding of the subject.

He was born different with a very different wiring schematic. Such folks are geniuses of all kinds, some scientific, some musical, some evil and some comic. They don't see or deal with life in the same way others do. They made differences in life, both good and bad, far beyond what the normal folks can or would do.

However folks like this pay a terrible price for different wiring. There is always a price of some kind to be paid.

Watching Robin Williams with his lightening strike wit, ability to see life through different eyes, frenetic and manic energy always gave me the impression he was running as fast as he could because he was being chased and dared not stand still. I guess whatever was chasing him, finally caught him. Nobody can run forever. He gave it a good run and brought laughter and delight to many millions all over the world. I guess that will have to be enough. Bu all accounts he was a good, kind and gentle man.

None of us will ever be able to understand what was in his head and that is probably a good thing. I for one am not going to even try. I just accept him for who and what he was.

I thought he was excellent in that role, come to find it may be because of his understanding of the subject.

Another ironic move he made was 'World's Greatest Dad'. In it, he played the father of a disturbed teenage boy who died during autoerotic asphyxiation. To cover the embarrassment of how he died, he created a fake suicide note and manipulated the scene.

My private thoughts of him for years was that he may have been bi-polar. His rapid speech, constant chattering and sometimes overly quiet periods too. I have seen him on television both ways. Alternating from depression to manic moods is a symptom.

some like me will never understand depression , but it is there strongly in the minds of the mentally unwell . it can be a gift and a curse ,.... my wife suffers from depression has voices that never get quiet in her head , so sleep is difficult , her neurons fire rapidly makig her brain work all the time , must be exausting for her ,, i had a neighbor boy only 8 years old took his life , hanged himself in a tree , suffered depression ,so sad..... can only look foreward to the ressurection hope , God bless robin williams , one of the greats, and all, who suffer in this world .

Hi,
I had a friend when young that LOVED the guy. He taped Robin Williams doing a comic stand up routine and we had to watch it two or three times to catch all the jokes!!! The mans mind was super fast no doubt! His politics I didn't look at.

His comedy didn't really make me fall out of my chair, but it did for millions. I have to respect that.

Absolutely. Improv is the hardest comedy of all. Williams carried on a fine tradition of Vaudeville that today's so-called comics have no clue of. His greatest movie roles were not comedy, however. The psychotic killer he played in Insomnia was epic. Crazy, chilling and true to form. You could feel the evil from it. Great actor.

I thought he was a great comedian and a very good actor.
He deserved the Oscar for "Goodwill Hunting".
It maybe he sometimes went off on his own, when doing interviews, because of he demons. A forget them for that short time. Probably why he had a drug problem.
Thing I liked about him, was he didn't use much vulgar language to make people laugh.
He will be remembered forever.

Here is a quote from one of my high school teachers (we are friends on facebook... haven't talked to him in 8 or 10 years face to face)
Such a shame about Robin Williams...as utterly brilliant as he was, his constant struggles with alcoholism and depression just underscores the thought that being a regular guy living a regular life is a pretty good way to go through life. May he finally find the peace he struggled so mightily to enjoy.

I'm sure it's tough when your Net worth is $130 million,
But your liquid cash on hand...and cash that comes in in weekly, JUST doesn't cover the living expenses of your business, family and Ex-wives.

http://www.therichest.com/celebnetworth/celeb/actors/robin-williams-net-worth/

So he had to sell his $35 million Napa Valley home and vineyard to cover those living expenses.

http://nypost.com/2013/09/16/robin-williams-returns-to-tv-sells-house-to-pay-debts/

I think most American's who live to that age ...retirement age for most, have to figure out how to live a less costly life. I surely wouldn't call it "Broke".
