I tried the 'search" for 32-20 didn't find anything, I have the NOE 314-129. My grand daughter wants to try her hand at shooting silhouettes using my Contender. I'm looking for light load data, I'm thinking about starting with 4-4.5 700X, 5.0-5.5 231 .
Any thoughts ??

Thank you

I'd start with 3-4grs 231, no experience with 700X.

My Lyman #46 manual has a load for the 311316 mold and 700X. 3.9 grs is the MAX load.

Thank to all, I'll try the lower listings with and w/o some Dacron.
TXGunNut, 700X is # 9 on my burn rate chart, Bulls eye is # 3. It's a fairly bulky powder, with my powder thrower set to throw 7.2 gn. of 2400 for my 22 Hornet , the same setting throws 4.4 gn's of 700X

Hogden lists some 115gr 231 loads, but nothing as heavy as the NOE 314-129

I as well as several friends have had good results using Hornday bulk 110gr rn sp bullets for the 30 carbine backed behind 5.7grs of 231 powder with std small pistol primer ! should group 1" or usually better at 50 yards from the bench with a scope.
A TIP ! only neck size or partial size your brass for best accuracy

Ive have two 32/20 (30/20) in a contender and a rpm-xl

for the RPM i used the RCBS 165gr sil boolet and 9.0 grs of surplus WC820 powder for 1,225 fps and under MOA accuracy at 100 yards. I also tried the Saeco #302 120 grgc accuracy was moa at 50 yards shooting but i settled on the 165 boolet.

My contender would not shoot either cast boolet accuratly despite my efforts.

Try 9.5-10gr SR4759, standard primer. I use this in both the 32-20 and 30 Carbine with standard primers and the 130 gr MP 311410. I worked this load up for the 10" Contender 32-20 for Silhouette and it is also the go to load in the Ruger New Model Blackhawk where in HP & soft alloy it ruins the day of ground squirrels big time out to 100 yards. Mild, shoots well.

That is a heavy boolit for this caliber--The heaviest boolit I have used is the 311-365 at 126 grains w/ gas check. 4.5 grains of Unique worked ok, but 3.9 grains of HP-38 was better in terms of accuracy. I have had better results with lighter boolits, but most of my shooting is done with a Browning 53 cerbine, not pistols.

In a 32-20 Marlin '94 CL using Trail Boss @ 2.8 under a RNFP 115PB @ .313.

Come to think of it, a case full of FFFg probably qualifies as a light load.

I have a .32 S&W Long rook rifle with 10" twist barrel which is long throated so that I can seat out ordinary .30 cal. rifle bullets and shoot them subsonic. I use a nominal caseful, about 7 grains, lightly compressed of RL7 powder with a 150-grain plainbased .312" bullet and get about 1.5" groups at 100 yards at 1080 fps. I have also used case-capacity charges of RL-7 in other pistol cases, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and .44-40 Win. with good results in rifle loads with bullets being slightly heavy for the caliber.

RL-7 ... cool beans huh? do you compress the RL-7 at all or just to the base of the boolit?
