I want to thank everyone who gave me guidance and support while I was trying to get some accurate loads for my 45-70.

Todays groups still have room for improvement but I am happy none the less.
All shots are from 100 yds. using a bench rest.
I shot several 5 shot groups of 2-1/2" using .459 dia. 510 gr. plain base cast bullets with 35 gr. IMR 4198.
Then I had 10 405 gr. gas checked cast bullets that had been previously sized to .458 with 34 gr. IMR 4198 powder behind them. The first 5 shots were nearly touching each other looking through the scope. I went ahead and fired the last 5 shots and went and measured a 2" group. I know that these groups arn't going to break any records, but they made me very happy. I am definitely going in the right direction.

To those who offered suggestions, Thanks.

Below is a picture of the 45-70 FDH#2

Great looking rifle. You can be very proud of starting and finishing such a project. I someday hope to make the more basic Chickopee action designed by the late Mr. Haus.

Well, thank you, and the following might help your project.
I think I am out of the rifle building business, but while I was researching
Mr. De Haas's rifle designs I found a site selling parts for the Chickopee.
