Yesterday I visited him in the nursing home after a nice afternoon at the range. He was tired, but otherwise fine and we chatted and I helped him get ready for bed.

2:30 in the morning the home called and told me they had to transport him to the hospital. Pneumonia for the 3rd time in 2 months. This time was bad. Really bad. When I got there they had him on a ventilator. Talked to the doc, talked to my Pop through hand signals and head nods and then made the toughest call I've ever had to make. I don't wish it on any one of you.

Tough old bird still took all day to pass.

WWII Navy vet, loving and devoted husband for 64 years, Father to 3 sons and a daughter, Grandfather to 1 granddaughter. A humble man, admired by all and without an enemy in the world after 86 years.

Tonight he is reunited with my Mom in the loving embrace of Jesus.

I love you Pop. Until we meet again.

So sorry to read this. Lost my Dad this spring, and it's a little better now that some time has passed. Not okay, but better than it was.
My condolences to you and your family. Saying a prayer for comfort...

Wow. This is a tough one. My dad passed at 86 years also. That was in 1996 and I still recall it very vividly. I miss my dad still. That is a good thing and the way it should be. My dad was a WWII vet just like yours and he was a good man, husband, father and grandfather also. I know you will miss your dad. I have prayed for the good Lord to give you peace at this time. It is very comforting to know that he is now at peace and rest and in a much better place. You have the assurance of seeing him again someday. What a day that will be!

We celebrate that our loved ones are welcomed into the Kingdom by such a loving God, yet the celebration is always tempered by our sense of loss. Will be praying that your family will have the peace that surpasses all understanding and the Mighty Counselor will comfort your heart.

It's always rough to lose a loved one, but something we must all go through. God is merciful and knows our pain. He will comfort you and strengthen you. I lost my dad 4 yrs ago, he was 88, and still think about him, especially when I'm using one of his tools.

Oh God that had to be a hard call but by the way it sounds, you both made the decision together. As hard as it was, i'm sure he would have done it for you. God bless you both. It's been six years since I lost my father and i would give a year of my life to spend another with him.

Sorry for your loss. Touched my heart. Had to make the decision about 6 years ago. Tough to do, but he would't have wanted it any other way. Mine was WW II, Korea and Cold War.

Prayers for you and the rest of your family.

My brother, I am my wife are both praying for peace and understanding for you and your family. I to went through what you did in having to make that tough decision to remove the ventilator, and as your father did, my lasted the better part of 24 hours before going home to be with our Lord and Savior. What a wonderful reunion you will have when meeting again on the streets of Heaven!

All our best to you and yours.

I'm sorry for your loss.

My dad passed in 2003 and I still miss him and his love for guns and reloading. He got me interested in guns and reloading. What I don't miss is the fact it took him over a week in agony before he passed and the call I made for them to give him morphene.

Do not dwell on anything negative or anything you may have not had a chance to tell or say to him. He is in a better place now and I firmly believe he has to be very proud of you and the rest of your family.

My hope is that you will find peace and comfort knowing that he is with the Lord and you will see him again. What a wonderful legacy to say that you did not have an enemy in the world and was loved and remembered. God Bless you and your family during this painful time.

May you all find peace.
