So I hit 2 dumpy, antique stores, and got this for $45. Most will be melted down and all is good pewter thanks to C.B. How did I do?

That looks like a very good supply of pewter/tin. You should be good to go for a very looooooooooooog time.
Very good snag.
In the past, I have acquired quite a few pounds of pewter. The brick-a-brack has dried up here locally,
so there's not much around anymore.

Nice sharp corners is something I read about, just yesterday, after the first score !

What does it weigh all together?
Any chance some of them have something inside the bases for weight?

The haul weighs in at 11 lbs. I was picky when going thru the piles and left weighted and glass- bottomed items. Almost everything is Woodbury Pewter. After I preserve a couple of items, maybe 9 lbs will be melted so thats around 450 to 900 lbs of pure lead to treat, if I know what I am doing, and I don't :D. Maybe I am set, for awhile, unless the sickness escalates or my chimney repairing brother, gets more unused lead flashing.

11 pounds? Geez man, I hope you live longer than that. :)

Nice haul.

That is fantastic for one days work. I look for pewter constantly around here and I only have about twice that much from the last couple or three years. You can't beat the price!
Always check the value of what you pick up. Once in a while you will find something "collectible" that is worth a good chunk of change if you sell it in the right venue. The big problem around here is most people in the junk stores think that their junk is valuable antique pewter and want to charge accordingly. Goodwill and Salvation Army are your friends in this regard.

I may start looking to keep the good stuff. The price for a new coffee pot like one that I found is $269.

Be careful. Those plates and bowls look awfully thick. Wilton (RWP), Crown Castle, York Metalcrafters and Pewtarex are not genuine tin alloy and are not suitable for addition to casting alloys.

i have bought several ( pewter ) items only to find out they dont melt , some kind of aluminum , so i buy tin babbit or tin metal from this sight ..cast boolits......

Thanks for the save. They are Armatale, an aluminum based product.

Pewter lasts about as long as gun powder in these parts, best options I have found are to buy from members here. I will say that the photo in the original post is a great score for 45.00.

As most people here have stated, you can never have too much Boolit making components.... i would still keep your eye out for more Tin. Stock pile it, if you ever get to the point you don't need it. then sell some of it. guaranteed return on investment. i have about 80-90 pounds of 50/50 - 60/40 -96/4 solder. which yields about 45-50 pounds of Tin, and i am still looking for more. be careful some of the pewter items are worth more in whole condition for resale then melting them down..

I get my pewter from ebay, but it takes a LOT of work to sift through the stuff there to find the scratch and dent kinda stuff that nobody wants... Between the stuff I find on ebay, and the stuff Imashooter sells, I am sitting purty for a long long time... And kudos to Imashooter for starting the pewter hallmark thread... I use that thread for reference when shopping...

9 lbs. for $45 is pretty darn good from where I sit. Especially if your holding some out for it's "pretty" factor or possibly value as is.

Found a pretty good sized pewter bowl at one salvation army 1 lb. $2.65 found another that was smaller at a different salvation army and that salvation army wanted $8. Even with 25% senior discount I could not see $6 for less than a pound as a good price. Maybe when that tag color goes on 1/2 price... if it is still there.

Most of the junk stores around me have nothing but aluminum ware. Have found very little and that I did find was worth over 25X what I paid for it as antiques!

Most people have difficulty ID'ing REAL pewter.

I have been very lucky finding pure Sn ingots and high Sn wave solder bars and other high Sn alloys for the price of pure lead. Got more than enough to do a ton or so of pure @2%. I mix my soup as I use it and keep the elementary alloys separate. Some people like making up big batches of "X" alloy, but then you cannot easily make something else later!

Since I have started PC'ing all my boolits, hardness is not as critical anymore....9-12 covers 90% of what I do, so I can dump this and that in (based upon the alloy calculator spreadsheet) and not worry tremendously about the hardness.

Good find on the pewter!

Ive picked up about 80lbs of pewter this year alone. Every time I go out to the thrift stores I have to take a look to see if they have anything in that day. Last year I think I topped off at over 100lbs.... I dont need any more pewter I dont think but its an addiction at this point if its cheap enough. I only have 1800lbs of lead left, Im hoping to trade a guy that has some very old wheel weight lead.

I have a bread plate hung over my reloading bench. It's very nice. Has a prayer on it.

I thought it was pewter and found to be Wilton, So this reminder sits over my bench !
How quick we learn from all the great folks on here.
