So yesterday the wife and I hit a yard sale that had advertised "Reloading Equipment." Of course by the time we got there it was all gone but the guy said, "All I've got left is a couple of molds." This in turn led to me inquiring as to what molds he might have. His response was that he had a 3 pound and an 8 pound cannon ball mold left. This morning he has neither and my wife is wondering what I'm up to.:bigsmyl2:

I new I'd get busted for that. I'm gonna fire up the pot today and cast some 311's so I'll pour a 3 pounder just for fun. I'll post pics a little later in the day.

I was thinking that the 3 pounder would make a decent ingot mold myself. The odds of me actually getting a cannon are almost on par with me winning the lottery (the government doesn't need me to willingly give them money).

The 3 pounder fits under my bottom pour but even with the spout opened wide as you can see it just doesn't pour fast enough. I'm thinking my gravy ladle and my smelting pot would be best. I bought 'em just for fun and if any of you need a cannon ball mold feel free to PM me.

Somehow I don't think perfection and fit are quite as important in a muzzle loading smoothbore cannon as it is in pistol/rifle ammo!

My next mold project will be one that is 1" for my ball loader. I'd make you a offer if it was smaller, but I think making the mold will be a fun project. You don't need a permit to own these as long as you load from the muzzle and don't fire exploding projectiles, perfectly legal ( no ATF tax stamp ) in most places to have and fire. Sure eats up a pound of BP fast though.

3 pounder is like 2.9 inches - wonder if any of the oil drillers us pipe with ID close to that size?

Don't think I'd trust that thin of a wall for a barrel. Sure would like to find the rear 3' section of a Bofors 40mm barrel, would make a nice ball loader.
