How do you hold the Lee hardness tester microscope steady? I am having difficulty holding it and seeing each side of the crater at the same time without it shaking around. (Its my fault and not the tools). Have any of you made some sort of holder to fix the tube steady? Perhaps modified an old science microscope? Old eyes and unsteadiness are two traits that I have been blessed with ;(

Perhaps modified an old science microscope?

I picked this one up for $11 - $12 dollars at a 2nd hand store. Was easy to adapt; top lens off and drill hole through bottom, wrap duct tape around the scope until diameter was a friction fit inside microscope body. Card on table has modeling clay on it to hold bullet. Easy to focus and move card w/bullet so the lines match up with the edges of the indent. Very precise and repeatable measurements can easily be made.
