I bought a package of 1 oz thug slugs from Ballistic Products. After some research the only complaint that I found was that they tended to lead the chokes. I got a small amount of red powder from my local powder coating shop and did the shake and bake. The slugs came nice and they seem to be much more slippery than the on coated slugs. Next is to load them and see how they shoot.

It's not too hard, but maybe tricky the first time....
First, you take a pic and store it somewhere on your computer.

Then in your reply, you pick this button on top of the "reply" box.

Then you'll get this box:

Then make sure you are on the "From Computer" tab on the top left,
and you just click "browse" and go find the file on your computer.
Done!

Maybe obvious- after browsing and double-clicking the picture filename, click the Upload File(s) thing and wait a handful of seconds.

I tried this on my tablet and it does not work. If someone was willing I could send them an e mail with the pic and have them post it.
Thanks Schultz

Looks really cool!! I shoot the same slug, without the cool red PC, through a Mossberg 590 with cylinder bore so no leading. But it will explode a small watermelon!!!:holysheep

THOSE LOOK GREAT. I have been neglecting my shotguns and spending a lot of my time PCing rifle boolits. good to be reminded not to get carried away with one thing. GP

I am going to take some of them to the range test them against some factory loads I have. I try to keep my reloads to around 1300fps for my 3gun loads. I may try some at around 1100fps for my Nova later.

So, the black plastic looking thingy is the wad? And it screws into the lead slug? Ingenious!

Sorry I didn't think to do that before I loaded them up. Iwill measure the next one and report back.

Anybody remember the Active shotshell brand? They were the "all plastic" shells. That is the Active slug itself that was loaded into their slug loads. Before Active started loading them, they were loaded "over the pond" by BRI.

Good to see that slug design still being produced. The wad slips into the hollow base of the slug to help stabilize the slug. When they first came out, they were simply amazing in the accuracy department. I was getting 2" groups @ 50 yards with a scoped smooth cylinder bore slug gun.

The terminal performance was also amazing in the hollow point version of that slug. Dropped deer ITT,(In Their Tracks).

I don't know what happened to the Active shell company. Their ammunition was all food stuff, and the hulls were sold as new components for making any type of specialty handloads.

I never saw any leading, but all the shotties that we hunted with were slug barrels with true cylinder bores. Morons who tried them in rifled shotgun barrels , had a real bad experience, horrible leading. BUT the standard punkin hollow base slugs like Remington or others also leaded badly in rifled barrels. They bought expensive rifled barrels, then didn't want to spend the high costs for sabot ammo, like I said morons.

Guess who got to clean those leaded-rifled shotguns? Me, because I worked at a gunshop, was the gun cleaner. It was possible to get that heavy leading out, only to have them shoot those same slugs in the attempt to "get sighted in" before the 9 day season.

I PC some more slugs. They measured .720 before and .722 after two coats. And Snuffy I still have a couple boxs of 16ga ACTIVE shells left.

And I was able to take thembout and shoot them. At 25 yards through a cyl choke they shot as good or better than factory stuff.
