I decided to try some pc'd boolits in my .44's to see how they work. Haven't had time to shoot them yet but I will shortly and post results of the side by side comparison with my conventional lubed loads. These are the Noe 432-265wfngc and will be loaded over some H110 pushed to around 1250 fps. I tumbled lubed one coat in cool whip bowl with Super Durable Wet Black, baked for 10 min at 400. I will be shooting these in my Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter..and Henry Big Boy.

44 mag Hollow base wad cutter loaded backwards, yep, powder cost works great.

The 2 sets on the left are powder coated, 1st set in 44 mag 300 gr solid, 2nd set are some more 44 mag HB loaded backwards.

Yes, I've PCed some bullets for my .44s. I have done some Lee T/L 240 SWCs, some Lyman 429421s, and some ranch Dog 265s. So far I've only shot them in my Ruger SBH and my .44 Puma. Works quite well...

Have you tried the same load with no gas checks? I thought powder coating was fine without gas checks, at least for pistol cal's?

Next weekend I will coat some 400gr 50 cal's for my 500mag and see if they lead things up.

He probably wouldn't get leading, but accuracy may suffer if he foregoes the gas checks.

have not tried without gas checks and probably won't as I shoot these boolits in both my pistol and rifle, plus it is designed to use it so I do. I know some guys don't like using gas checks but it's not a big deal to me.

I have not used gas check bullets in the .44s

I have used a lot of them in .30 and .357 calibers.

The bullets shoot just fine without the checks but your group size at 50 yards will increase by about a third.

If you shoot three inches with the check, you will shoot about four inches without it.

Obviously other people might have different results with different guns.

How would gas checks help with accuracy?

I can't explain the exact physics of it (maybe the copper base tends to stay a more perfect shape or something), but it's pretty much the consensus that it's not hard to shoot bullets with a GC shank without checks, but very often accuracy suffers a bit. It's been brought up many times before.

I use a 44 Cal cast bullet from a Magma mold cast with my Master Caster.

I have shot a lot out of a Contender with a scope with good results.

I use the same load in revolvers also.

The picture below shows the 44 Cal Cast Bullet.

The bullet is bevel base and I install Cola Can Gas Checks on the cast powder coated bullets.

the picture shows all of the bullet molds that I have that fit the Master Caster machine.

So would I be better off getting a mold that does not have a GC and powder coating them versus a GC mold with out a GC on it?
I'm planning on Powder Coating some 300BLK, but have not yet purchased a mold to cast them up. I see on the other forum topics that I can get GC molds or non GC molds. Thanks!

I think it's advisable to get either a gas check mold and use gas checks, which tends to produce the best accuracy at high velocities, or get a plain based mold and don't use them.

Awesome-looking boolits for an awesome pistol. Nice work!

Since the mold may be used to cast bullets that'll be shot nekkid, not powder coated, go ahead and get a gas check mold. My Ranch Dog mold drops gas check bullets so I put the checks on PCed bullets just because. For checking PCed bullets, a gas check is not needed, but it doesn't make much, if any difference either way.

I powder coat the LEE 240 T/L . Pushed them to 1400 with great success. NO leading what so ever.

I size to .431 and they shoot great in my Henry. That was with Ben's Red lube, still haven't had a chance c to shoot the pc's yet.
