Hello. My 9 Month old son is in the hospital for running very high fevers. He was running a 103+ fever since Saturday but last night his fever peaked at 105.8 and he went to the ER. Originally we thought it was just a viral infection which would pass but now we have no idea what it is.

The doctors have run several tests on him since last night including fecal, urine, mucus and blood tests and all of them are coming back negative for anything. They were able to give him some Motrin to bring the fever down to 99 but a few hours later it shot back up to 104. The doctors are completely puzzled.

He was also vomiting and had diarrhea. The doctors hooked him up to an IV to give him fluids and electrolytes and since he's been on the IV he's regained his energy.

My wife and I believe this may be a demonic attack against our family. We used to be very active in missions and street outreach but have fallen behind in the past couple years. Recently her and I are waking up to our lack of faith and lack of outreach and have been searching for active ways to reach people with the gospel again. Be it any other physical illness it may, but we sincerely believe the enemy is trying to attack our family because of this (which only makes us all the more determined!). We're asking for serious prayers from all our Christian friends and now I'm asking for prayer from all y'all believers.

Please pray for my son, that whatever is causing this will go away, the fever will be brought down and he will be protected from this happening again and however else you feel the Lord lead you to pray. Thank you!

I pray that The Lord will sustain you and your family in this time and that you will see His miracles in the hospital and be a witness there as well. Let all glory go to God.

You have my families prayers. My wife had a similar thing happen 2 years ago. The doctors were clueless. Finally the CDC determined she had West Nile Virus. If they are doing blood tests don't let them stay local. Make noise and get them to a lab that has seen a greater range of virus.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I went through that when I was 14. The doctors could find nothing in the cultures. Meningitis was the original suspect. My parents demanded the small town doctor consult with a specialist in infectious disease. The specialist suggested I had a staphylococcus aureus infection. After 4 days with no results they started me on massive doses of penicillin. My fever that had been to 106 once and 105 a couple of times began to drop. Sixteen days after being admitted I was sent home crippled and remained somewhat disabled for 2 years.

Twenty-one years later I had pain in the same location in my back. The family doctor in a different and much larger city showed me my X rays and says there is nothing there that looks out of order to him. He palmed me off on a orthopedic surgeon and washed his hands of me. The orthopedic surgeon put me on large doses of oxacillin. The pain and fever increased.
The doc invited me to drop by and see him while he was on call at the local ER trauma center on a Friday night. I knew he was going to admit me to the hospital. He ran the usual blood tests and found nothing. He consulted with the hospital's chief bug doctor (his words for the head of the infectious disease treatment). New medicine was used - They did a radioactive bone scan and found a hot spot in my back right where the lump was growing and where the pain was.
They put me on 50 ccs Keflex (Cefalexin) per day injected into the IV. I was given 2 liters a day of D5W or saline.
The doctor said the location of the infection made it difficult for blood to carry the Keflex to the infection. They also put me on the drug probenecid to curb the excretion of the Keflex so it could create a higher serum level in the blood.
My temperature started to climb to 103 before it receded. After 5 days I went home and took oral cloxicillin for 3 months.

The underlying story?
The orthopedic surgeon moonlighted a lot at VA hospitals. He had treated many WWII veterans that would come in every 7 to 10 years with recurring staph infections from shrapnel wounds. He would cut into the old wounds, clean them out and prescribe antibiotics.
One doctor can be mostly ignorant while another might know what is going on right off the bat.

I'll be prayin' for your family.

I'm sure this is nothing, but they talked about the Ebola breakout in africa on the TV news tonight, the symptoms sound similar.

If you have convictions about evangelism then I would pray and be obedient. God is a God of second chances. Think of all the people in the Bible that messed up.
I will pray for your son.

Encouragement indeed! :D

Thank you all for your prayers. His temp went down... We told the doctors to stop giving him fever reducing medicine to ensure his body is actually recovering. Still no results on the tests and no doctor or nurse can figure out what the problem was yet. They're running another blood sample and another fecal on him. He was vomiting earlier but seems to be leveling out. He's up and super active and I'd imagine he's about ready to get off the IV.

Will keep y'all updated. Thank you so much for your prayers. It's been very hard for me to focus on anything but this over this weekend. I may be able to get to bed before midnight or at least "at" midnight tonight. My wife is super drained.

In Jesus mighty and powerful name may healing and restoration occur quickly and completely. As you pray and seek The Lord about becoming involved again, remember it was God who called Satan's attention to Job. I completely believe in spiritual warfare but please don't think this is in any way punishment.

Often these things are more of a test on the caretakers than the sick. You and your wife take care of yourselves. It is wonderful to hear his temp has dropped!

Sounds like your family has always been good and religious. Just because you have fallen off of some of your faithful participation, our God will not punish your small son. I seriously do NOT believe He works that way. Some do......I do NOT. He is not a vengeful God and protects children from the evil one. Your sins (if any) will not manifest themselves on your children. Believe in His power and mercy.

Have faith in His healing hand!

We have a test result back. On the 3rd fecal test they finally got back "Shiga Toxin" which comes from e.Coli! Doctors are now treating him. Thank you for your continued prayers and encouragement!

This situation if anything has deepened our resolve to serve the Lord. Thank you for your prayer for that as well!
