Hi, Many casters use a hot plate to preheat their bullet molds. Why not an electric frying pan.? It seems to me like you could cut two slots in the side of the pan. That the handles of the mold could set down in. The top could then be put on and the handles would stick out of the pan. You could also pre heat your billets in there at the same time. Am I all out of wack, or would that work.? thanks in advance.

I have seen this done in the past... The reports on the performance was good.. Go for it...

Sure, hot is hot. Basically a hotplate is a developmentally challenged electric skillet.

Yep, that'll work. My only thought would be size. My hot plate is about 8"x8" an a bigger 12" elec. frying pan would be too big for my bench...

I saw a picture where is caster cut out a notch on the side of the frying pan (electric) so his mold would fit flat on the bottom of the pan.

I just use an old coffee maker with no carafe so, I can't see any reason not to use the frying pan. Breakfast and boolits!

I never needed to do it, but I think a used convection oven would work. Replace the glass with metal, cut a hole or two for mold handles... maybe make a cover plate in case you still want to use it for heat treating.

I got this (see photo) for $1 at a thrift store.
If I had found a electric fry pan, I may have went that route.

There is a photo of such done by one of our community. It is in the casting equipment forum I think. It put me to shame as I had just built a little oven for my hotplate. Oh well.
