That should work! Where you hunting, and what gun are you using. I have a old Win 94 carbine in 32 spec.

Might try 33 - 35 gr LeveRevolution with that bullet.....then you'll see some real "smack down"!

Larry, How do you like the LVR. I've been wanting to try some. Looks impressive on paper.

It is a very good powder in some applications. in .30/.31s it most often takes a 170+ gr bullet to build enough pressure to burn efficiently. In the 30-30, 32 SPL and 7.62x39 with 170 - 180 gr cast some impressive velocities are possible while keeping the psi very low. The time pressure curve goes up slowly, flattens out and then drops off. It is unlike most anything you'll get with a regular powder. If Wild Bill's 32 SPL is a 20" carbine he should see 2200+ fps at around 30,000 psi or less. If he has a 24 or 26" rifle then the psi will be the same but he should see 2300 - 2400+ fps. Given the SAAMI MAP (Maximum Average Pressure) for the 32 SPL is 42,000 that is impressive by way of the low psi and the higher velocity. If a M94 Winchester with a 16" twist accuracy should also be excellent with the cast bullet.

Very cool intel, Larry.

Have you tried any of the other newish Hodgdon powders, i.e.: CFE 223 or Superformance? If, so what are your impressions?

Thanks in advance,

No, can't find 'em on a shelf. When I hear of them and get to the store they are gone.......

a case full of 4831 [34-35grs] will give about 1800-1850 or so in the carbine with a 175 too, it's a smooth shooting load that's pretty quiet considering..
I use an old saeco boolit with a flat nose that just whaps stuff, it's be great on black bears as well as deer in the thickets.
heck an elk out to @ 100 yds wouldn't go too far either.
if I wanna step it up to the jacketed velocity area then 24grs of 4198 gets me right where I wanna be.
just enough without too much.
