They look dangerous I hop you don't have cats, those will disappear.

They will NEVER work.

I thought everyone in N Z knew that if it wasn't PURPLE it would not work on the wildlife.

Those look very good. How much hook gape do you have? That is my only concern.

Deer hair flys are neat to tie but man, what a mess! I finally went to foam popper instead, so much cleaner to make.

Well done Jeff.

Just don't tie any deer hair cats, it would get ugly fast otherwise.

Yeah, I have limited hooks and the gape is not huge. I have trimmed to maximise the hook point to body distance.

They look 1000 times better than the yarn and squirrel tail caterpillars that I tie!

Awesome!
We have used versions of the same on Northern Pike. Apparently they love the taste of mouse.

Jeff, I know so little about New Zealand that I didn't know you had fish there! Wallabies, Kangaroos, rabbits, foxes, and hares from you posts, but fish? With all the great feral critter hunting opportunities you have there, when do you find time to fish?

Jeff has to make time to take his beautiful daughters (as seen in his avitar) fishing if he wants any piece in the household.

Those look really good. Almost a shame to have some fish tear them up!

Dad talked of catching Dolly Varden, now Bull Trout by putting a hook in a mouse setting it on a lily pad and pulling it off when it had drifted out far enough. Looks good, Jeff.

Just make sure the cat's can't find them. :)

Those look very professional. Should work well on big browns, or any other good-sized fish in your area.

I saw a northern pike smash a mouse that fell off a dock, maybe 3 feet of water. I tossed the spinner bait I was flipping for bass and it smashed it. Turned out to be a nice 5 pound pike.

Thems pretty nice! Got any books you would recommend for steelhead/salmon? I am for the most part just getting into the whole fly tying thing.

Jeff what style and size of hook do you want. I may be able to find the hooks you want here. Postage to NZ can't be that much. I may have some proper mouse tying hooks that I haven't used in years.

A guy I knew while I was in Alaska used live mice for pike bait up in one of the lakes on Fort Greeley. He had called the state DNR and asked about legality of doing so and they told him it was cool but advised him to make sure he got gray or brown ones, the fish didn't like white ones.

He and the guys that went with him caught some nice fish with them. Seems he hooked a treble hook through the skin on its back and cast it out to swim was all.

That's very generous. I'll try them first and come back to you. I might be buying a jighead mould from the US soon and if I do I could get hooks added.
