A shot of the newest addition, the 35 Mosin 91/30 next to the 41 Mauser. Enjoy.

I like Mosin-Nagant rifles because.. well.. they're cheap. They ~were~ cheap. But I really like the Finn Mosins. Those boys knew how to make some accurate rifles out of sheep dip Russian crapola. If they didn't make their own barrels they knew where to buy them. I'd urge you to seek out a Finn 91/30 with a Finn or Belgian barrel. I have a Finn m/1891 Mosin and a Finn m/39. I found a beautiful new rebuild 91/30 Finn with new stock/handguard/barrel. Wasn't cheap like $90 Russian rifles but there's no comparision.

I like Mausers because they're the best. All manner of Mausers. My oldest is an 1871 Mauser.

Very Nice guns (all of them), I should look for a Finn I guess - but I'm happy with my M38 scout the way she is

As a young lad this album cover intrigued me...

Picture was probably developed off film... backwards. This would produce a 180 degree flip making his Mauser look like a left handed bolt design.

Yeah, it always bothered me that they couldn't get the negative right.

I've had 4 Mosins over a period of time and sold them all off. I've kept my M39 Finn though, like Dutch says, you need to try one.

I knew it was from a flipped negative. always bother me when I see stuff like this. if ya don't care enough to try to do it right,.....

one of my favorite shows is Swamp People but they bug the pee-water out of me with their editin'. don't know at the times I've seen left-handed 10-22s used on the show as well as 3 or 4 guns used to make the same shot.

Sometimes they will flip the negative so the person will be facing the right way. In classical imagery the good guys come from the right to the left. Bad guys are always (almost) on the left side.

Nice finish on those stocks, I like it.

I have converted Mosins to 45/70, 30-30, 7mmRemMag, 300WinMag, and .223.
I have converted Mausers to 45acp, 243, 308, 25/35, 223, 7mmRemMag, 300WinMag, 7x57mm, 30 Mauser, and 260.

Mausers sure are easier.

And a Hex receiver no less. Thanks a lot, now I have to buy a Mauser to go with my Tula 91/30. And decent Mausers ain't so cheap any more!

Mosins aren't as cheap as when the gun-stores offered change in 91/30s, but still cheaper than just about everything else. Unfortunately, they're probably the last gold-rush of bolt-action milsurps.

Still kicking myself for not picking up a couple of $150 Swedes back in 2000.

Just got in my NOE 314299 mold yesterday and waiting for GCs for the Mosin. Looking forward to loading that and putting a few down range.

What size GCs you gonna use, Jeff?

Not Jeff but the 30 cal. checks are what is needed.

I have a Russian 91/30 that I mounted an NcStar 2X7 pistol scope one the rear sight base dovetail in 22 rings. With the proper size (.315") boolit and load it will shoot moa at 100 yards.

My 71 Mauser will shoot into about 3" to 4" at 100 yards with the Lee 300gr 45 cal. pistol boolit sized to .450" and gc'd. No complaints there from me. Had to J B Weld the front sight to get it to shoot to the bullseye.
I would not mind owning a Finn but the prices have sure climbed lately.

Thanks leadman. I'm about to order a 314299 as well.

Clark,

Just wondering: we're the Mausers easier because you weren't converting any to 45-70 (I didn't see it on you list.). Although the .45 ACP must've been interesting:-)

It seems like the Mosin would be easier to convert to a rimmed round, but my experience in such things is nil.

I confirmed with Blammer to be sure and he says .30 cal same as lead man said.

Making the extractor relief cut on the Mosin Nagant breech is done on the mill, not the lathe. The Sav 99 and Win 1885 are a bigger pain, but the 98 Mauser and the Rem 700 are no trouble at all.

clark,
how hard was the 45/70 conversion? I did a 300 wsm on my last budda'd sporter. is it single shot or mag fed, I extended the notch in mag forward to accept the wsm case

Nice rifles guys. Love me some Mausers, I'm a big fan of the Enfield... and I will always have a soft spot for Mosins... as that was my first milsurp. Finn Mosins are great. I had an M39 that I sold like an idiot. I regret letting that one go.

I've come up with a Mauser Vergueiro since these were posted. Neat rifle and the barrel appears to be in good shape. It has some pitting under the wood but internally looks ok. Will be keeping the loads light in it. First time I shot it, it was showing promise. I have rounds loaded for it just haven't been able to properly evaluate it yet.

OK with what I did 10 years ago making a single shot 45/70.
I have this year made single shot 223 Mosin with manual lifter, and 7mmRemMag repeater.
I am working on a 300 Win Mag repeater, but it has the same problem as the 7mmRM, the unfired cartridges cannot be unloaded.
I cannot make the ejection port any longer as the bolt uses both surfaces for camming.
So I came up with an ejector by pass button. That allows the bolt to keep pulling the cartridge further back, and not get trapped.
