My old shooting/hunting buddy just bought a Merkel 470 N.E. and we are itching to shoot cast boolits in this beautiful SxS rifle. The bore slugs .474 and I have found some .475-480 Gator gas checks but no mold or sizer die for my Lyman 450 as of yet. Anyone load and cast for this round? What size boolit are you shooting. I've got lino, pb, and tin and I've cast a ton of boolits for pistols and revolvers but this is a first for rifles. I am thinking a velocity of 1800-2000fps will get a 500 gr close to the regulated poi. Will the RCBS .476 sizer work in my Lyman 450????

I think one of my fillings rattled loose just from reading this.

Tom at Accurate Molds can cut you a mold that size in pretty much any shape you'd want. I don't know about the Lyman sizer but you can get a Lee push through sizer and pan lube them babies. Not like you're gonna be shooting in high volume.

Try paper patching some of the heavier 45 caliber boolits. That should get you shooting.

I did that with a 475 Number 2 Jeffery that crossed my path a couple of decades ago.

Well, I would surely shoot it more than I would with j boolits-they are about $75 for 50. The brass is $70 per 20. That's ridiculous but it is what it is, I guess. I was wondering if anybody else had been this route with the RCBS .476 sizer.

I never patched a boolit before but I might wind up doing it here. I wand to get this rifle to shoot to the point of regulation and that was done with 500 gr Norma ammo, according to the target supplied with the gun.

I have a mold and sizer for this and I'd like to sell it. PM me if you're interested.

Lee makes a 476-400 -rf for 480 ruger that might work for a "plinker" boolit.

I know that's light for a NE, but at $20 it's worth a try.

other than that, your likely looking for a custom mold.

And yes, RCBS sizer dies fit lyman 45/ 450/ 4500's

I had a mold made for the 475 Ackley mag. I think its 600gn. Can make you some if you wish. Also have a couple LFN designs for the 475 Linbaugh at about 400gn one gc and one pb.

Mighty nice of you, Bullshop. What diameter do you size them to for the 475 Ack? If you could send a couple of them it sure would help find a starting point. I'll PM you.
