How do you guys keep the powder fouling out of the action when you clean your sharps? bore guide are what

Clean from the open breech, not much to worry about. Drop the block out once or twice a year and wipe it clean.

1- place a ballistol/water wet patch on jag
2- shove wet patch/jag/rod thru the barrel from the breech
3- remove patch from jag and retrieve rod/jag from barrel
4- repeat till the bore is clean
5- dry with clean dry patch
6- spray oil in and around breech and into action till dripping
7- lovingly wipe down rifle with a clean dry towel
8- do as Don says a couple times a year

when possible clean the rifle upside down in the cradle from the breech. A quide could be made with a stub end about 3 inches long and a case length nose with an oring to seal then all would be sealed from action.

thinks guy for the info. i clean muzzle loaders all the time just never a breach loader.

I use a bore snake every 5 shots from the breech.then do a good cleaning when I am done shooting..at home or on the range

Since I shoot a '63 percussion Sharps, I don't keep the fouling out of the action. When it gets home it gets disassembled, each part cleaned, and re-greased. No big trick, only takes a few minutes.

Ted - why would one want to patch the bore with Ballistol/water and not further oil the bore?
Use Eezox and it is done one time for cleaning, lubricating and rust preventive of the bore and other metal parts

left out the bore oil huh? ... all this talk about Eezox ... will have to find some and give it a try. now living in the world i have all kinds of things at my disposal without having to order it online and either pay for the chemicals or not get it altogether.

Just pull the pin and drop the block....very easy to do. This is also the way that Kirk from Shiloh Sharps told me to do it.

like Nobade said, I clean the whole thing every time. It don't matter if it is a cartridge '74, or the "loose" '59. If it has had bp in it, the entire gun gets cleaned. I get a lot of pleasure and information in taking the lock, block, and forearm off for inspection and cleaning.

and the cradle helps a lot.

Yep, and it's easy to give the whole breechblock a quick rubdown with a lightly oiled cloth.

thinks again guys. i have no problem taking the rifle apart just asking. like i said i shoot muzzle loaders a lot and take down is manatory.
