I know I saw it someplace. I tried search but don't seem to be bright enough to get the right search words. Can someone point me to the thread or give it a rehash.

What do the factories lube 22 rimfire bullets with? It's a hard wax (?) of some type or ????? I was thinking it would work good on 22 hornet loads if the speed was held down a bit. Good plinker load for kids and tin cans. A step up from 22 rimfires. How close would it be to Johnson's?

You might have some problems when you start plinking kids, too!

ok... semi-serious reply...

I really don't know what kind of lube is on rimfire ammo... it seems to be a hard waxy kind of thing. I have shot some Lymans out of my K-hornet at lower speeds using Lee liquid alox. I think that stuff works better than any hard waxy lube.

I know that doesn't answer your question, but... that's all I've got...

Dunno if it's what the factories use, but Felix has several times suggested soy wax for this purpose. I suspect the ammo factory wax is a microcrystalline paraffin.

"Rooster Jacket" sounds like it would work fine for your needs. It dries to a clear waxy film that works well. Available from Graf's, Midway and others...Ray

I think it's just parafine wax.
