All,

I have been using an old Lyman 45 sizing/lube for years with only Lyman sizing dies. Recently I received three RCBS sizing dies in a trade and found them different not only to the Lyman dies, but each other. I have a RCBS 82228/429 and 822230/431 that has a groove on the outside of the die and the lube holes in the groove. There is no groove inside the die and no groove at the top where the screw that holds the dies usually goes as on the Lyman dies. However, I have a RCBS82233/452 that looks exactly like the Lyman dies with the groove at the top and the groove inside the die. Why? Will the still work in my old Lyman 45? Thanks.

Can't answer as to why they are that way but they will work just fine.

I have came across RCBS dies like that..without the rounded set-screw groove..only the pressure of the screw on smooth steel will be holding the die in place on the upstroke..resulting in die being pulled out. As to why? I believe the old 45 has been considered obsolete for quite some time..so the added work of machining a groove has fallen for the bottom line...besides..it's purpose is for a competators lube/sizer!

So maybe I make a small dimple in the die body to allow the screw to hold the die? Would that work?
