I have several pounds of Alliant RL17 powder and I'd like to use it in my Mosins--M39 and -38.

Problem is I don't know if it is suited for CB loads--I found some full-power loads for 30-06 jacketed but no info for reduced or CB loads.

I have 314299 and Lee 180 molds on hand and access to many more.

Anyone out there have experience with this powder?

I have one entry for RL17 showing 55 grains, MV around 2863 but I have no idea how it would behave in a reduced load.

I know I've been having very good success using IMR 4895 in my Mosin's down as low as 20 grains, you will have to adjust sights, POI was 5-6 inches low.

I'm waiting on a range trip I have 10 packages made up working the ladder in the 30 grain and up range. 5 rounds of 30, 5 rounds of 31, 5 of 32 etc.

I'm shooting mostly 185gr out of a lee .312185 2r with Gas Check.
The surprising part isn't that the Mosin seems to take to them, my old Yugo SKS is eating them like candy. She LOVES them, seems to have a thing about long and hard. :)
