Hi everyone, I couldn't turn up anything with the search function so I will ask it here.

I have a discontinued 6.5" Ruger Super Single-Six in 32H&R. I'm planing on starting out with Lee molds for casting. Lee makes three 32 cal molds, a .311" 93 and 100 grain RN mold and a .314" 90 grain SWC.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experiences with any of these bullets in the 32 H&R. Another thing I need to know is what size tends to give the best results in the Ruger Single-Six guns? (I realize that every gun is an individual.) The chamber throats on mine measure .311-.312", but the bore seems to be .308-.309".:-? (I was measuring using the calipers and not by slugging, so take that last measurement with a grain of salt.)

Thanks for any help that you can give.

Crosshair, I can solve your problems! Just sell that Ruger to me... and for a low price as well! Just kidding, but I have been looking for one of those!

A lot of folks seem to have had good results from the .314 90 grain Lee mould or the Hornady factory made equivalent. I like the Hornady slug and in fact use it in a number of old military surplus bangers over a light charge of Unique or Red Dot. I use Red Dot mainly because I found a sealed 8 pound drum at a yard sale for $15 a few years ago. I'm ashamed to say I bargained the price down to $10! :)

Here is one article by Beagle on the csatingfellows page

http://hgmould.gunloads.com/casting/32hrcast.htm

You can get to the same article on castpics

http://www.castpics.net/index2.htm

Also do a search for 32 s&W long here on the forum you will see some info come up that will fit into your project. You can search for HarryO or Dale53, both have godd experience with the 32's.

I am sure one of them will be along shortly.

Here is another good posting although for the sp101, info is still good.

9.3x62 AL also has experience with the various 30 and 32 psitolas

Here is a link to a good thread

If you cannot tell I also like the 32s.

I've got one of the very same Rugers. You are going to like it. In fact, a local pawn shop has a 4-5/8" version for $495 that I have been looking at for the last 2 or 3 months. Nice, but more than I paid for my 6-1/2" version.

The 6-1/2" Ruger is accurate with virtually anything. For maximum loads, I use 2400 and Hornady jacketed bullets at pressures slightly more than factory loads. For plinking, I use the RCBS 98gr SWC at pressures less than factory loads. Many powders work well with it. W231, Bullseye, Red Dot, and Unique. Recently, I got a pound of W540 (discontinued) for free and found that it works superbly in the .32 Magnum and duplicates the factory lead loads almost exactly. I understand that HS-6 is the same powder and as soon as I finish the W540, I intend to try that.

I don't have experience with either of the Lee moulds, but the .32 is extremely flexible, so I would doubt that they would be a problem. I have not slugged the barrel of mine. I usually only do that after I find that there is an accuracy problem and I have never had one with any of the .32 Magnum's. I can use up to 0.313" sized boolits in the Ruger, but that is snug. 0.312" sized boolits work easily in that one and also work in my S&W 631. That is what I use. Good luck and have fun.

I've a Ruger Super Single Six also with 6 1/2" barrel and a 10" TC barrel. I shoot tons of Lee's TL 90 gr SWC over 3 gr of Bullseye for right at 1000 fps. I use that bullet over 2.7 gr Bullseye in my .32 S&WL M31. Extremely accurate and no leading. I also use that bullet in numerous .30/.31 rifles for a great plinking/small game load. I've the 6 cavity mould and load them on a Dillon 550B.

For top end loads the Lyman 313631, a 105 gr GCSWC, is very hard to beat. It was designed for the H&R and performs very, very well in it. The old 31118 or it's GC's cousing 311316 also are top performers.

My SSS's throats run .312 but I size the bullets .314 if they drop that big. The .312 sized bullets shoot pretty much as well. Love this little revolver and shoot it more than any other these days.

The favorite is the RCBS 98gr SWC.

Ive shot a pile of the 92 gr. round nose lee,in my 6.5 inch ruger. Shoots pretty well, but the accuracy champ is the 311316 lyman, and a close second is the rcbs 98. A full case load of H-4227, with either of these boolits,is the cats meow!

I certainly agree with the above posting about the versatility of the 32 Magnum in the Super Single Six; I also use it in the Ruger Blackhawk, with dual 32/20 and 32 Magnum cylinders. I like it a lot better in the Single Six, simply because it is so convenient and easy to carry around. Some time ago, I was looking for a custom bullet to work in the 32/20 at higher than normal bullet weights. Veral Smith at LBT made me one several months ago that comes out at about 140 grains with a 50-50 ww/linotype mix. This is a plain based design, and shot extremely well in the 32/20.
I decided to give it a tried in the 32 Magnum, realizing that it is very overweight for the cartridge; the cartridge didn't seem to mind at all. I very good groups at 50 and 100 yards, and decent velocity over 820 surplus powder. I don't wish to mention charge weights, because I believe that the Smith and Wesson, as well as Harrington and Richardson revolvers, which are no longer in production might not be strong enough for this kind of loading. I do not have a Ruger SP 101, and suppose that I would probably wait for that one to come out in the.327 Magnum, which is apparently a longer version of the 32 Magnum.

I really think that Ruger is missing a sure thing by not continuing the single six in 32 Magnum, because as this site has demonstrated, there is a tremendous demand for these handy , accurate, durable revolvers.

Larry,

You need to bring those guns over to Paul Bunyan in Puyallup the first Saturday of each month. You can shoot silhouette targets with us. 32s work great in field pistol (out to 100 meters), and the contender with an RCBS 165 sil bullet will work for big bore (out to 200 meters). Corner of 176th and Meridian. 10:00am. first saturday of each month, except October. Were elk hunting then.

my best luck in the 32s has come with the lbt 120 lfngc the 98 rcbs and the 105 ballitic cast swc. If i had to pick one bullet the 105 would probably get the nod. All of these bullets have shot well in about a half a dozen differnt guns so im sure its no fluke. I size to 312

I've run thru a LOT of bullets in 32 in the past 7 months or so.

Out of all of them, the RCBS 32-098-SWC is hands down the most accurate. Shoots with just about any primer/powder combination.

The ballisticast 115 FNBB is very, very good too.

The Saeco 105 shoots great with medium or faster powders, for me, in my gun, under the conditions I shoot. Only disappointment is it gets wild with anything when you push it past about 1200 fps or so.

Lyman 313631's are very, very good, but I don't have that mould so I don't get to shoot them too much.

90gr sierra jword is simply excellent. Much better than XTP's or the 100gr Sierra in my experience

>>>I have a Ruger SP101 and use it quite a bit. My target load is 2.8/ 231 behind a Lee GB 100 Keith (casts .314" and I size to .313") using .32 S&W L cases. If you wish to use the .32 H&R Cases, I use 3.2 in the magnum case.

For a full load, I use a .314/120 RF GB mould bullet ahead of 10.0 H110 (this gives 1100 fps in my 6" barreled S&W 16-4).

I just LOVE the .32's (only have four of them...)

Dale53<<<

The above is a copy of my post on an earlier thread and is still my recommendation. Other good loads above will work just fine, also. There is a lot of interest on this board in the .32's (and rightfully so, IMO).

Your "new" Ruger is a fine, strong single action and you don't have to worry about loading it up to factory specs (and beyond, if necessary). I find that I mostly shoot my "target" load and find that it works just fine for edible small game as well as target.

Off the top of my head I have the 311316, 311359, 311631, the Lyman 311 90 gr WC, the Lee 30 cal Soup Can, the GB 120 FN and a couple other 32 moulds. Of them all I find the 311316 is the best, hands down. Second best is the Soup Can GB. Both are GC and both are .312+ from my moulds and alloy. In my 32 Mag, a Ruger SS 9.5", ( 9.5" you ask? It was the only one I could find, and no it's not handy), I can get groups under 1.5" at 60-75 yards, but it's scoped.

I would say try the Lee offering, especially the Soup Can, and the RCBS which is a near duplicate of the standard 32-20 design.

I finally have my very own 120 RF Group Buy mould and along with the Saeco #322, these are the 2-heavier (120+ grainers) that I am having luck with.

I have a 311316 and a 311008 but that's a bit small for the guns I have in .32 cal.

The RCBS 32-98 is about the champ for me with the 100 grainers. I also have an older Ideal round-flat nose mould which throws a real nice little 100 grain boolit that I have been having very good luck with.

You should hang your head, and drag your toes as you walk:Fire:

I bought a 12lb keg of 700X the same way, but I payed the full asking price..................at $8 I did not haggle.

The Lee soupcan works well with jsut about any powder and also works well with no g/c and light loads of Bulls Eye.

I used to be a member of Paul Bunyon when I lived out of 176th. Moved over to University Place and joined TRRC. Kept my PB membership for several years but as traffic increased I let it drop as I wasn't making it there very often. I do get there once in a while with a couple members to shoot. Shot a lot of HP thereand the military rifle matches. Also shot the M1 Carbine matches and a couple levergun silihouette matches. Nice range. Be nice to shoot some matches again...hopin to be retired from this contract job by this time next year. This job keeps me deployed more than the Army did!

Do 6mm gas checks fit onto the shanks of 32 gas check moulds like the 311316?
Pardon my ignorance but I just can't seem to find an "32" gas checks and those 6mm ones seem sooooo close ...
