Like the title indicates, who has used Longshot in their 30-06 for cb's? What worked? WHAT DIDN'T AND WHY!?? I've got some and a few (very few!) 170 gc boolits that were given to me (FYI unknown mold). Don't want to waste them on a bunch of crappy loads trying to get a good one so give me a good starting point. Rifle will be an old tang-safety model Ruger M-77 w/ 22" barrel.

I'd load a few at 15.5 grs., 16.0 grs. , and 16.5 grs.

Longshot is just a " smidge " faster than 2400 .

You should be able to use suggested starting loads with longshot powder using 2400 load data with zero problems.

Thanks Ben.

I've found that 16gr of Longshot was really good in my SMLE with a 224gr 316299 copy. Just wanted advice for a lighter boolit.

I have a mid-'71 vintage M-77 "hollow bolt" .30-06 and it's a tack driver with RCBS 165-SIL boolits over 16.5 gr. 2400. Also does very well with RCBS 180-SP (old version, 82013). The 165-SIL was also quite good over 31.0 gr. of IMR 4064. Next up will be SR 4759, but I have not shot any yet. It definitely doesn't meter as well as 2400, but with a bit of care, my Redding powder measure throws consistent charges.

This is exactly why I got Longshot. I knew its burning rate was close to 2400 and it was available.
