Guys, what's the going rate for pure lead. 4.9 on the Brinell Scale and I also ran a chemical composition test on it. Thinking about selling some of my stash if the price is right. My buddy told me to hang on to it the government is cracking down on lead making companies and the price may rise.

What say yea????

You should get takers at $60 for 50 lbs in a flate rate box

I'd say any price in the $1-$2 per pound range would see your inbox flooded with willing buyers. I obviously don't know your cirmcumstances but I would hang on to it. At the moment it's only worth a buck or two per pound but a year from now... it may increase ten-fold.

I have 25-30lb slabs and various sized pieces. I also have some in ingot form but I would rather the slabs first. So what do I have to spot post them for sell on here? Tried but it said I don't have the permission to post. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/15/a5enuvuh.jpg

You're only 4 posts away from being able to. It takes 25.

I doubt there will be a significant price increase considering the current economy and multiple government entities and states wanting to crack down on the use of lead for anything so my expectation is that $60 for 50 pounds would be a fair price. That plus flat rate shipping

Ranges won't be affected. People still wanna shoot and hunt. And if shooter can't find lead, well, the law of supply and demand. Hopefully it won't get that bad.

you seem to have met the requirements for S&S.

I'd put up a 50-55 pound box for 65 shipped.
make sure the plates will fit, and weigh the box.
keep everything square and tape the jebus out of the boxes [especially the corners] adding an extra layer of cardboard inside the box to keep things from shifting helps a lot too.
they invented that packing tape with strings in it for a reason.

Yes!!!! Fiber reinforced tape is a must! That clear mylar stuff that the P.O. gives you has no shear strenth and will rip right across with the slightest scratch or nick.

Market price is 99.5 cents per pound. Other's have given you fair prices for it from the supply and demand side. Almost all commercial bullets are made from recycled lead. It's no accident that Sierra is located in Sedalia, MO where one of the largest lead recycling plants is located. The smelter that was closed in MO was a primary smelter. They turned ore into rough ingots, and send the impurities to other companies for use. The rough ingots are sent to secondary smelters which purify them further. There are several secondary smelters in the US. Canada will get most of our ore for processing now. But note, the lead mines in MO haven't been operational in years because there's a glut and the price of lead is too low to make it profitable.

I have a few hundred pounds of lead from old good WW that I cast into 1-lb ingots. Also 1800 lbs of lino from printer's sheets that I cast into 1 lb ingots. I don't think I am ever going to use it all.

A dollar a pound is fair.

Buck a pound is the average going rate lately. Some a little more, not many less.

I purchase scrap lead from a recyclers FPO the spot price. Usually about 75 cents per pound. My last run gave me 654 pounds (2 recyclers).
