I'm using a caliper on my sized bullets and their going from a .311 from the Lee .309 230 grain bullet mold to measuring out to .308. after running them through a Lee .309 sizer die. Should I hone the die out?

check your caliper first before you go too far!

do you have a micrometer?

I wouldn't hone anything based on a caliper.
Keep an eye on Evilbay and bid on some 1" Starrett mics. I very often see nice ones go for under 20 bucks. I think I got my newest one for $11 about 7 months ago.

Once you own one.... you won't believe how many things you really needed to measure. ;)
I use mine almost daily.

The sizes quoted by Lee for sizers are just "ballpark figures".

check your size against a 308 jacketed bullet.
if you want to open up the sizer it's easily accomplished.
wooden dowell, split it down the middle, wrap some 400-600 grit wet dry sand paper around the dowel until it fits the hole.
wet the paper and die down with some oil.
roll it up and down your leg.
push a boolit through and measure.
when you get super close to the size you want finish it off with some 2,000 grit paper, and then some tooth past as the polish.
go slow and keep on checking your progress.
once you get it justaboutrightthere polish the die up with the tooth paste and a bore mop in your drill.

I have recently opened my lee sizer die from .311 to .3115. I suspect I will continue the journey all the way to .312 and possibly beyond. But I wanted to actually shoot a few rounds at each stage to see what effect it has on accuracy.

I have a pair of Mosin's and a Yugo SKS all at .312. The Yugo is doing great with the .311's the Mosin's not so much. Minute of 5 gallon bucket is all I can be sure of at 50 yards. Not sure how much of it is them, and how much me.

I wrapped a small square of emery cloth around a wood dowel, chucked it in my drill. About a minute later I checked and I had gained that half a thousandth. So my advise is check often.

And use the factory ammo as a double check to make sure your micrometer is reporting correctly.

All my Lee sizers size alittle smaller than advertised. I hone them out to fit my needs.

check your caliper, maybe measure a jacketed bullet to compare, if you feel comfy using it, yea I'd hone it out, if you need it at .309.
