Been trying to use up all the different powders I have laying around, 1/2# of this, a pound of that. While trying to burn up a can of imr4320 (don't know where it came from & it's starting to smell acid'y) in the 308 I like to bring a pistol or 2 along to shoot between sets with the rifle. I have 1 & 1/2#'s of clays laying around, can't remember what I was using it for. Started digging thru old notes & found one that said "clay's 6.5g/44mag/xxxxxx". So I dusted off the open can & dug some boolits out & made up some plinking loads to test in a 629.

I took the pro-point dot off of the 629 & put a 4x scope on it. After getting it on a piece of cardboard (20"x 20") @ 25yds a target got put up & the pistol was sighted in further to be able to hit next to the target I would aim at. When the scope was sighted in it was time to get down to it. The 1st test load was with the Mihec 503 clone, the right target was for walking the bullets in, adjusting the scope as I shot. The left target was the 1st test target.

The next target was some h&g 142's, only the solid points (220g) were used/shot. They're lubed with 45/45/10 & have a home made al gc. The hp 142 is a 200g boolit.

Tried some 429303's also, put some gc's on them for another test (full house loads). They have such a thin bottom drive band I was worried about bad things happening to them with high pressure loads. Didn't need the gc's with these powder puff loads but I figured I'd use/try them anyway.

And I also tried some cramer 200g wc's, these things flat out shoot.

I used a simple rest for the pistol & didn't spend a whole bunch of time shooting these test targets (around 1 minute to dump the cylinder/6-shots @ 25yds). Any one of these loads should make a good plinking load. Looks like any one of those boolits will be able to burn the rest of that # & 1/2 of clays with no problem.

Yep

My Redhawk likes Clays also ! Now the secrets out!!

The beauty of it is that CLAYS is 1 of the most insensitive to position even that dab of 6.5gr. in the 44 mag case !!

CLAYS is 1 of the powders I buy in bulk.

I was down to 4# & wanted to reserve that last 4# so I went to my local GS & kept seeing Alliant`s 20/28 , found NO pistol/revolver data , but I have worked with it to the point I trust Uniques data reduced 5%, just wish I had time to really wring it out !!

20/28 looks like WW231 & flows even better .

But yes , I buy CLAYS when I find it .

I use it in my 41 Rem. Mag(preferred powder) and 45 Colt as well .44 Rem. Mag. shoots very well in all of them.I get load data from those little spiral bound cartridge specific booklets.
