What are you guys using for powder. I did some testing the other day with some varget. Started at 10 grains and worked up to 25. i noticed the powder wasn't burning very efficient at the lower charges. I was shooting out of a mini 14.
I noticed the brass was getting some dints on the taper from unburnt powder on subsequent rounds.

Any advice on other powders and grains?

I have on hand BLC2, alliant 1200, tightgroup and some others I cant think of at the moment.

Running a 55g gas checked.
Thanks
Stephen

I havent tried the shooting cast in my 223, but I aim to. Which mold do you use? Does your mini 14 cycle ok with the lower velocities? I dont know about cast but I have had great luck with 748 and H-4895 with jacketed. Varget never has done real great in my rifles. 4895 is what I use in my Coyote Calling rifle.

I used H4895 with pretty good results in my Mini14 some years ago with 55-60 gr cast bullets. Still had to be in the 1800+ fps range for the powder to burn efficiently and function the action.

I am using the lyman 225415gc.
The mini didn't cycle with 10g but I think it did at about 18g I have made a smaller gas bushing for it though.
Thanks guys I will have a look at that sight george.
