I use to look at the pictures of AR15 rifles with those cool buttstock monopods. I'd sit for hours wondering how to make it happen for my beloved Swede m/96. I got it :-o

The black item is delrin, about 1.25" diameter. The machining of it took a while and took some imagination to come up with it. The wood is ash. The green item is the thrust bearing made from green nycast nylon impregnated with molybdenum. The all-thread is USA made and yes there's a difference. This came from www.use-enco.com (http://www.use-enco.com) when they had a free shipping promo so I bought a bunch of it. Its not the cheap stuff you'd get at the corner hardware store. I think at the time I took this photo I was waiting on the piece of 1.25" brass for the knurled lock screw.

This was one of those things you spend an excessive amount of time on because the imagry just won't leave you alone. How does it work? Real good. And yes, the wood part is adjustable for height once the brass locking ring is snugged in place.

wow.!!
you put some thought and effort into this, the bevel matching the rifle stock is a super nice touch.

Dutch: have you got another Elite Sight you'd part with? My CG 63 project needs one.

Have only one Elit sight for one of my rifles. Haven't seen any come out of Sweden recently.

I emailed Peter Sonenson about a year ago and he told me virtually everything for the CG63's was gone. I managed to get the end cap and most of the piece parts for my stock from him, but it looks like that well has pretty much dried up.

I was able to borrow a Elite sight from the guy who was selling the Walnut Stocks on the Swede Forum several years ago. I made drawings and have all of the measurements and could make something that looked like an Elite sight however the Elevation Thread is virtually un reproducible as it is a 4 start metric thread and goes from 200 to 600 yards in less than 3/4 turn. It would be a supreme CNC challenge to make the OD thread, and I could conceivably do that, but the tap to do the internal thread is about a $300 custom piece of hardware.

Instead I designed a mechanism using a 10-40 thread which works more like a Lyman sight. I may have to actually make the thing one day.

Or I could simply mount the Lyman #48 H I have instead. which is probably what will happen. The Elites do look cool though.

It is a project waiting for time to complete and that list is about 4 guns deep.

I don't think any of the Swedish targets sights have "clicks". They have smooth movement. I don't care for that. And shooting cast bullets when you top out at 600 m. means you aren't going to shoot very far when you have a 50 yd zero set at 400m. Depending on how you sight on the bull I have to set my rear sights to 400m using a 6 o'clock hold. You run out of elevation.

Of all the target sights I like the GF diopter. Problem is it requires a relief cut across the top of the rear bridge as a clearance cut for the bottom of the elevation. When shooting nothing but cast bullets you don't need that relief cut because you're using more elevation so the bottom of the sight doesn't hit the receiver. The hole pattern for the GF is the same as the Soderin and Elit. There's a taller version of the GF intended for the CG63 Junior .22rf that has more elevation adjustment.

If I was you I'd use the Lyman 48. Lots more versatile and has CLICKS! The 48 was one that the Swedes used, too.

I have a nice CG63 stock & handguard set plus the special triggerguard. Had intended on building a faux CG63 but never got around to it. Lothar-Walther makes CG63 and m/96 barrels.

Yes, that seems to be a common problem with the oft repeated 1600 fps loads. However, the problem goes away with high velocity loadings....... BTDT.
