I am looking more at the smoothbore 100 yard target... not bad at all! I still have not picked up a Lee 7/8 oz. mould but will eventually. I have been too busy to get out slug shooting or even work on my rifled choke tube. it will all come in time though.

I do have to say that your 7/8 oz. slug targets from a smoothbore tend to look pretty nice.

Hogtamer:

Those are good groups for their respective ranges shot, for sure.

And not even using what may be the best powder, 4759,

or roll crimping with 3" case to hold the 4759...Ed

HT,

That 200 yard group is showing real promise! I would be interested to see what that load would do out of an H&R 12ga Ultra slug hunter or a Savage rifled 12ga bolt gun.

Even hitting the paper at 200 yds is amazing.

I sent him some old style slugs and maybe they

will do as good or better.Ed

Yeah, no kidding!
I gotta get to work and catch up!
Maybe a scope would help, too- since that 100yd over iron sights looked pretty small.

I believe that Ed's sabots can perform very well, they will just need shooters with with an accurate weapon, being good shots, and the drive of the quest in reloading to shoot very well. After you figure out the components and load you have a slug gun capable of shooting longer than average distances for the life of you and the gun and his component. Instead of have to try different factory loads every few years when companies change there load data. (I wonder if there is a consumption reason behind that.) Not bad Hogtamer for reloads and a 200 yd target.

Very impressive on 100 yards with the Lee 7/8 oz. My compliments!!!

thanks Tony, but most of what went into those loads came from others on this forum. There does seem to be some magic about the 34 grns of longshot that I have been unable to duplicate with other powders. As mentioned I'll be trying some 800x at various charges.

Hello Hogtamer, i have had good accuracy at 50 meters with slow burning powders, (the ones used to 1 1/4 oz shot loads), and that may be the way to go. Have never tried it a 100 meters, the people at the range will not allow me to do it. (most shots on hogs are under 50 anyway).
Unfortunately in italy most american powders are not available (except 800x at 56 euro a lb).
